Year 1 children enjoyed a visit from author Laura Knowles, who read her book "It Starts with a Seed" and shared how she develops her ideas. She engaged the children in a creative activity, imagining themselves as trees and used this to explore descriptive language. The children also learned how books are created, from initial concept to the bookshop, and how they can be published in different languages, giving them an exciting insight into the world of storytelling and publishing.

As part of the National Year of Reading 2026, we are excited to celebrate author and illustrator Jez Alborough this month!

Our children love his fun, engaging stories filled with playful rhyming patterns, memorable characters and wonderful animal adventures. His books help to develop early language skills, build vocabulary and encourage a love of reading through repetition, rhythm and humour.

We can’t wait to share favourites such as Hug, Duck in the Truck and Where’s My Teddy? throughout June!

Year One children took part in a recycling workshop where they learned how to care for the environment. They explored what can and can’t be recycled and what waste can be turned into, helping them understand the importance of recycling. Working in groups they discussed which items went into which bins. A great way to develop a deep understanding of how recycling works.

We’ve had a great time celebrating National Numeracy Day, with lots of fun, confidence-building maths activities. From counting and exploring more and less in Nursery, to enjoying interactive whiteboard activities and designing Numberblocks in Reception, and to writing secret coded messages and tackling code-breaking challenges in KS1—it’s been a fun, busy, number-filled day!

Nursery children went on a bear hunt, hoping to find a big one. Into the playground they went, tiptoeing, squelching, and splash-sploshing as they searched. Suddenly—there it was, a big furry bear! Quick—back they raced the way they had come, all the way to the nursery doors.

Today, staff and children wore blue in support of MPS Awareness Day, a cause that is especially important to one of our teachers. We celebrated with a lively disco in the hall, dancing along to music from our very own DJ—and I think it’s fair to say the children stole the show on the dancefloor.

This week Year 2 enjoyed gardening with Mrs Hill. They filled biodegradable pots with soil, planted their seeds, gave them a good watering, and then placed them in our flower beds. We’re excited to watch them grow and can’t wait to see lots of bright sunflowers in bloom soon 🌻

An interactive workshop immersed our Year 2 children in 17th-century London. Narrow streets, wooden houses and the ever-present risk of fire brought the build-up to the Great Fire of London to life through exciting role play. A fantastic way to learn history through re-enactment.
