Last week’s residential at High Ashurst was about far more than outdoor activities. For many of our Junior pupils, it was an opportunity to take on something that felt challenging, unfamiliar or even a little daunting. Whether scaling the climbing wall, stepping up to the archery range or tackling team challenges with their peers, everyone showed the courage to give things a go, embrace new experiences and keep going when things felt difficult.

These moments really do matter! They build confidence, resilience and self-belief, helping children discover what they are capable of when they are prepared to take that first step beyond their comfort zone.

A huge thank you to Mrs Bell, Miss Lord, Miss McCarthy, Miss Wheeler, Miss Mortley, Mr Duke and Mr Catterson for supporting the Juniors through an unforgettable stay!

Marking Dyslexia Awareness Week with our first Open Morning of the Autumn Term felt especially meaningful. This morning, our students and staff shared what makes Moon Hall special, while our visitors reminded us why a school like ours matters so much.

Last Friday, one small swap made a big difference. In exchange for a non-school uniform day, our Moon Hall community filled Reception with donations for Loveworks Reigate Harvest Collection.

We were also delighted to welcome back former Governor Graham Humphries, who volunteers with Loveworks and sees first-hand the impact these donations have on local families.

Yesterday, the timetable made way for something different. Our whole school PSHE Day was chance to explore new skills, new experiences and new ways of learning.

A highlight was welcoming Lorraine from Hedges & Hurdles, who guided our Year 8 students through a willow weaving workshop in our new outdoor classroom. Using 100% natural, sustainable materials, students created twelve willow pheasants over the course of the day, each one the result of patience, concentration and creativity.

As the willow was woven, so was a sense of calm! The mindfulness element of this activity was palpable. A wonderful day of creativity and learning beyond the classroom. Thank you for sharing your day with us, Lorraine.

Two recognitions with one shared purpose. We are incredibly proud and deeply grateful to have been recognised by the Independent Schools Association this year as a Finalist for ‘Innovation in Independent Education’ and Highly Commended in ‘Future Readiness’.

With such a high standard of entries from across the independent sector, these accolades mean a great deal to our whole community. But more than anything, they represent the children, families and staff who make Moon Hall what it is.

Every day, we see the power of a school where children feel understood. A place where they are encouraged to believe in themselves, where they know they belong, and where they are given the confidence and opportunity to become the person they were always meant to be. That journey sits at the heart of everything we do.

From a stable to studio. What was once a disused stable, and a later a storage workshop, has been transformed over summer into our beautiful new Art Studio. Turn the volume up and enjoy being guided through this new space by our Head of Art, Mrs Wexler. Light and airy, this room has been designed solely to inspire creativity the moment you walk through the door.

It’s already proving a big hit with students and staff alike.

We are constantly asking ourselves how can we make our school better for our children, and continually reinvesting in spaces, opportunities and experiences that help them thrive.

We’re delighted to share that Moon Hall School Reigate has been approved to increase its capacity from 200 to 250 pupils.

This means more children with dyslexia will be able to benefit from a Moon Hall education and for our current families, our focus remains exactly the same; small classes, specialist teaching, individual support and a community where every child is known and understood.

Last Thursday, Moon Hall’s Assistive Technology Lead and Head of Careers, Mr David Curran, brought together an inspiring community of educators, researchers, specialists, practitioners and organisations in collaboration with the University of Surrey for a truly pioneering event.

Focused on assistive technology, AI, skills and the future of accessible learning, the day was a powerful sharing of ideas, expertise and good practice. Bringing together voices from across SEND, assistive technology, curriculum development and skills education, the conversations centred on a simple but important question: how do we build access into learning, assessment and future pathways from the very beginning, rather than treating it as an afterthought?

‘Inclusion Beyond SEND’ was supported by sponsors Everway and AT Superstore, alongside an impressive network of partners and supporters, this first-of-its-kind event created opportunities to connect thinking across sectors, challenge perceptions, inspire new approaches and, perhaps most importantly, start some vital conversations about the future of accessible learning.

Most importantly, it reinforced a shared belief that when access is considered from the start, more learners are empowered to thrive, achieve and realise their potential.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such an important conversation. The momentum from this event will continue long after the day itself

The brief: bring together a Year 7 cohort, welcome lots of new faces, and start the year with an adventure.

The result? Campfires, climbing walls, abseils, obstacle courses and a whole lot of teamwork.

Last week’s High Ashurst adventure gave our Year 7s the chance to reconnect with friends, get to know new classmates and throw themselves into something completely different. The perfect start to the year and a brilliant way to celebrate the biggest Year 7 intake in Moon Hall’s history
