BEGINNERS BATIK

Wednesday 30 September, 2-5pm

Nikki Bovis-Coulter is bringing batik to the Art Room — using wax and dyes to build up patterns and colour on fabric. We'll be learning the basic process and experimenting with the resist techniques that make batik so distinctive. And it smells really nice!

No previous experience needed for this fun workshop.

WET FELTED BAGS

Sunday 20 September, 10am - 1.30pm

Make a bag from wool, water and soap. It sounds unlikely to work, but that's essentially what wet felting is! Your tutor Sam Tancock will show you how to turn sheep's wool into a sturdy, seamless felted bag using the above ingredients and a lot of elbow grease. It's a weirdly magical process, and the end results are completely lovely!

This one's for anyone who has looked at a watercolour painting and thought, "I'd like to have a go at that, but I wouldn't have the first idea how to do it!"

Cathy Eastment will take you through the basics in a relaxed three-hour session. No previous experience required and absolutely no need to be "good at drawing".

If you've always fancied having a go at acrylic painting but aren't quite sure where to start, this is for you.

Rose Haddy will take you through the basics and give you plenty of opportunity to experiment with the paint and see what it can do, and come away with a painting or two as well. No previous experience needed.

DRAWING WITH TONE

An unpressured, motivating drawing workshop for anyone who feels they’ve drifted away from drawing and would like to find their way back in. With former Head of Fine Art Roger Towndrow.

In this month's session we'll explore how tone brings atmosphere, depth and form to drawings. Using light and shade, we can create everything from subtle shifts of mood to bold, dramatic contrasts, and we'll explore how to use our drawing tools to create depth in our own drawings.

Something small and lovely to make in September!

Phil Kincaid is back at the Art Room with a nifty little workshop making beaded brooches. You'll learn how the two main methods of applying beading to textiles and create a bit of wearable art while you're at it.

Plenty of scrap materials and more beads than any human could use in a lifetime - all included in the price. And no experience needed!
