Often we get the message that struggle is a bad thing, something to avoid. However, struggle is a necessary part of learning, especially in math.

Getting students to embrace challenges and work through struggles starts with getting them to see it's okay to struggle. Problem solving involves a struggle. Little by little we can build up their perseverance and their willingness to tackle new challenges.
