Meet Marvin. Marvin is a pug. Marvin has never built a shelter, lit a fire or slept in a hammock. Marvin’s skill set going in was “being a pug.”

🌲 Swung in the hammock like he’d been doing it for years
🔥 Rested by the fire with the quiet confidence of someone who did none of the work.

🏕️ Moved into a custom-built shelter, made just for him, which he rated very highly.

Honestly, the most relaxed participant we’ve ever had. Zero complaints. Several snores.

We 💚 Marvin and he is welcome back any time!

Over the last couple of weeks some of our Home Ed crew spent their sessions building axe blocks. Every future project starts here: tool safety, teamwork, and a lot of sawing.

Somewhere, a log is very nervous about what comes next. 🪓🌲

A couple of members of team S&R went to play on the cliffs this week - it was a bit spicy!

On a belay stance you can’t step out of the way, and you can’t put the rope down. Someone is relying on you, so you stay put, keep hold, and deal with being wet later.

That’s most of survival, really. Not the fire, not the knife. Staying useful when you’re cold, uncomfortable and would rather be anywhere else. You can’t teach it if you’ve stopped practicing it!

Huge thanks to the belayers who got the full force of the Atlantic in the face several times.

🌿 The Forager's Almanac: Awakening.

The first stirrings after winter - tender new growth breaking through bare ground and hedgerow. If you missed the launch: this is the opening session of our 2027 seasonal foraging programme through Cornwall's woodland, hedgerow and coast.

We won't tell you what we'll find. Part of the point of a seasonal course is arriving without foreknowledge and discovering what the land's decided to offer that particular week.

A full day, 10am–3pm — morning foraging, then an afternoon turning what we find into a shared, late lunch.

Well, that’s the new term properly underway.

Home Education is back in full swing. New young people have started their PATHFINDERS journey. Families have been learning bushcraft together. Wild Skills Workshops are up and running. And we snuck in a cheeky festival-style event, because why not.

Not a bad start, all things considered. 🔥🌲
