The children had an amazing time learning all about the important job firefighters do. They explored the fire engine, heard the siren, tried using the hose, and even got to sit inside the fire engine! 🚒💦 We also had the chance to see the firefighters’ protective clothing and talk about how it helps keep them safe while they help others. Lauren and Emily tried it on too!

A huge thank you to the wonderful firefighters for making the visit so memorable and inspiring for our little learners ❤️

The excitement is building at St John’s Nursery! 🚒🔥As we get ready for our firefighter visit today, we’ve been making our own campfires, learning about fire safety through play, and using water to put out pretend fires. The children at Forest School have been learning how to use real tools safely to split wood for our fire 🔥 They thoroughly enjoyed toasting marshmallows over the fire and observing the changes as they melted, with some children describing them as “sticky”. The children have also been using a variety of leaves to create their own stick wands and have been talking about the signs of autumn, describing the different colours, textures, and changes they can see in the natural environment 🍂

Messy Play Fun! 🫟🎨 The children had lots of fun during messy play, using a variety of utensils to scoop, mix, and explore different paint colours. They also enjoyed searching for and identifying the letters in their names. Throughout the activity, the children engaged their senses by exploring the glitter and paint with their hands, discovering different textures and developing their creativity and curiosity ✨

Our Holiday Club will be running across two weeks:

📅 19th–22nd October
📅 26th–29th October

✨ Open to children aged 2–5
✨ Children are welcome whether they currently attend St. John’s Nursery or not!

🌿🐞 We’ve had a very exciting start to the new term at St John’s, welcoming not only some new children, but also four new stick insect friends!

The children have been carefully observing and caring for our new pets, holding them gently, describing how they feel on their hands, and learning all about their habitat. Together, we had lots of discussions and chose names for our newest nursery residents:

✨ Hotshot

The children have loved checking in on the stick insects each day and are developing their understanding of the natural world through hands-on learning 🥰🍃
