This week, we were delighted to welcome Richard Lenton—award-winning sports journalist,
broadcaster, and lecturer at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, and the University of
Brighton. Richard brought the world of sports media to life for our students, giving them an
insider’s look into the art of interviewing.

He even invited one of our female cricketers to
share her thoughts on The Hundred in relation to women’s cricket, using her insights to
demonstrate how top journalists guide conversations and uncover newsworthy content.

Our next Industry Influencers talk will be on Tuesday 10 November.

It was fantastic to welcome three of our recent alumni back to St Bede’s to spend the
morning supporting our Year 13 students with their UCAS applications and personal statements.

Having just been through the university application process themselves, they were able to share valuable first-hand advice, from structuring a personal statement to applying through the early admissions process.

And there was some pretty impressive experience in the room, with all three alumni heading to either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge!

A huge thank you to them for giving up their time and sharing their experiences with the next generation of St Bede’s students. It was a lovely morning of advice, encouragement and plenty of insight into life beyond school.

What a fantastic A level results day, with St Bede’s Sixth Form students achieving excellent results. The vast majority of our students have secured places at their first-choice university, including Oxford and Cambridge and many also going to Russell Group universities.

Last week, our Year 12 A level Politics students secured Work Experience placements with
their respective MPs - Jasper with Rebecca Paul and Darci with Chris Coghlan. Jasper got to
meet with the Speaker of the House, Lindsay Hoyle about young people and mental health
and Darci got to produce and present her research on sewage pollution. The politics
department is very grateful to them both for sharing their experiences with the rest of the
class and proud of them for making such an impact!

St Bede’s New Year 12 Induction Day!

Yesterday we welcomed Year 11 students and gave them a glimpse into life as a sixth former at our school.
From engaging taster lessons and free lunch to meeting staff and students, the day was packed with exciting opportunities and experiences.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and made the day such a success. We loved seeing the enthusiasm, participation, and curiosity from all involved.

Before half term, Year 12 students were given the opportunity to visit the University of Sussex and St Hilda’s College, Oxford to experience life on campus. As a key part of our Sixth Form Careers and Excellence programmes, these visits help students to clarify their personal goals and teach them how to get the most out of their own independent open day visits. From interactive taster lectures and campus tours to talks from student ambassadors about finance and accommodation, the visits give students a true taste of university life and a clear roadmap on how to make it happen.
