🩷AQA GCSE English Language Paper 2 advice 🩷
Question 4 is out of 16 marks and is the big comparison question! You will be asked to compare the two texts that you’ve been given. It could be comparing their feelings or attitudes towards something or it could be a certain topic or theme.
The key skills they are looking for here, are to analyse how both language and structure are used to get across the writer’s message in the two texts. Make sure you spend a decent amount of time answering and comparing the texts to gain the maximum marks on offer! 16 mark question = 20mins writing time.

For Question 3, paper 2 - it is all about language analysis. You will be given one of the sources in particular to focus upon and need to zoom in and explain the impact of the language and literary devices used.
It’s very important to just focus on the specific lines that you are told to analyse and not the rest of the text. Do not look at the second source for this question. With this question remember to zoom, zoom, zoom in on the language. This will gain you the maximum marks out of 12.

💙AQA GCSE English Language Paper 2 advice 💙
For Question 2 on paper 2 it is all about summarising and comparing the differences between Source A and Source B. You don’t need to analyse in the same way you do for the other questions.
What is similar? What is different? And evidence it. Make it clear and concise to get your 8/8 marks.

💚AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1, Section B Question 5 💚
There’s a choice between writing a story or a description. I would always advise writing a description as it’s easier to gain the marks.
Start off by annotating the image provided on the page with as many adjectives and the 5 senses as you can.
Next, consider the following acronym.
Imagery
Metaphor
Alliteration
Personification
Simile
Onomatopoeia
Senses (All 5)
And use it as a checklist as you’re writing. At least two to three times each when you’re writing your description.
Aim for 6-7 paragraphs minimum. Start off with deciding on the time of year (season) and the time of day in your initial paragraph to set the scene and tie into the picture you’re describing. Then move onto your 5 senses paragraphs (one on each)
Ensure you use a range of punctuation and sentence structure for impact throughout too. This is marked out of 40 total. 24 for content and 16 for SPAG.

💛AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1 advice 💛
For Question 4 (To what extent do you agree with the statement) A quick thesis discussing whether you agree/disagree or partially agree with the statement.
Followed by at least 4 P.E.A paragraphs detailing how the language in the text backs up your opinion. Like the language question (2) do a more detailed response about the impact of the quote overall and then zoom in on the language features. This will get you your top marks out of 20.

For Question 3 (structure) make sure to look at when the extract is taken from in the extract? Is their media res to take you straight into the action?
Make sure to compare the beginning of the text in one paragraph to the final paragraphs (ending) in another.
Also, look out for paragraph and sentence lengths and types, as well as the impact and purpose of the punctuation used. This will get you your 8/8 marks on this question!
