Iron’s Curie point is approximately 770°C (1420°F). This is the temperature at which iron loses its ferromagnetic properties and becomes paramagnetic.



🔥 What Happens at the Curie Point?

• Below 770°C: Iron is ferromagnetic, meaning its atomic magnetic moments align spontaneously, allowing it to be strongly attracted to magnets.
• At or above 770°C: Iron becomes paramagnetic. Its magnetic moments no longer align spontaneously, so it only responds weakly to external magnetic fields and loses permanent magnetism.

• Magnetic transitions: The Curie point marks a phase transition in magnetic behavior. It’s critical in designing magnetic materials and understanding how temperature affects magnetism.
• Engineering & metallurgy: Knowing iron’s Curie point helps in applications like heat treatment, welding, and magnetic sensor design.

Firework colours come from metal salts that emit vivid light when heated—each hue is a chemical signature!

Fireworks are a dazzling display of chemistry in action. The brilliant colours we see in the sky are produced by metal salts that emit light when heated to high temperatures. This process involves two key mechanisms: incandescence and luminescence.

🎆 The Science Behind the Sparkle

• Incandescence: When materials are heated, they glow. The temperature affects the colour—red at lower temperatures, white at higher ones. This contributes to the glow but isn’t responsible for the vivid hues.
• Luminescence: This is where the magic happens. Excited metal ions release energy as visible light. Each metal emits a specific colour:• Strontium salts → Red
• Calcium salts → Orange
• Sodium compounds → Yellow
• Barium salts → Green
• Copper compounds → Blue
• Potassium salts → Purple
• Aluminium, titanium, magnesium → White sparks and flashes

• Purity and temperature matter. Impurities can dull the colour, and the right temperature ensures the metal ions emit their characteristic light Compound ... +2.
