Our Managing Director and Owner, Vicki, is currently in Ghana volunteering on a childcare project, working alongside children, families and local communities.

Message from Vicki:
“Although I’ve spent years working in early childhood education and own a group of nurseries in the UK, nothing could have prepared me for seeing first-hand the challenges many of these children face every day. Despite having so little, they are full of joy, resilience and potential. Many children simply need access to the basics that we often take for granted such as educational resources, school equipment and, for some, help paying essential exam fees that determine whether they can continue their education.
I truly believe that where a child is born should never determine the opportunities they have in life.
That’s why I’m launching a fundraiser.”

Over the next two weeks, to support Vicki, we will be fundraising with our children and families while learning all about Ghana and the amazing children she has the privilege of meeting.
To make every donation go even further, Forest Friends will match every pound raised, doubling the final amount we can donate.

We will be doing a Sponsored colour run to Locke Park. We would love it if you and your family can join us. Sponsor Forms will be going out with children this week.
We will also be doing a blind card and raffling off a couple of prices.

Together, we can help give these incredible children the start in life that every child deserves.

Thank you for supporting this journey and believing, as we do, that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and flourish.

Today was a little reminder that appreciation doesn’t always need a reason 🌿💛

Not because of a milestone.
Not because of an award.
Not because of something extraordinary.

Simply because of who they are.

Every single day our team show kindness, patience, warmth, care and dedication… often in ways that go unseen but never unnoticed.

Today’s Appreciation Rose was a small reminder of something we hope they always carry with them…

✨ You are valued.
✨ You are appreciated.
✨ You are loved.

Childhood is precious… and so are the people helping shape it! 🫶🏻

To our Forest Friends families 🤍

As part of some important changes at Forest Friends, we have been reflecting on how we document and share children’s experiences online.

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to significantly reduce the use of identifiable photographs of children across our social media and wider online platforms.

This decision comes from our commitment to safeguarding and protecting children’s wellbeing in an increasingly digital world. Technology, including AI and facial recognition, continues to evolve rapidly and we believe our safeguarding practices should evolve alongside it.

We believe children deserve the opportunity to grow up with privacy, dignity and the freedom to decide for themselves what parts of their lives they wish to share online in the future.

This does not mean we will stop celebrating the beautiful learning that happens every day at Forest Friends.

Instead, our approach to documentation will become more intentional, focusing on learning experiences, environments, children’s creations, moments of discovery, muddy boots, tiny hands and the magic of childhood itself, rather than identifiable images of faces.

We are also reflecting on the wider culture of constant digital updates. In a world where every moment can feel expected to be photographed and shared, we believe childhood should still leave space for privacy, presence and genuine connection. Documentation should be meaningful, purposeful and respectful, not simply a daily online photo album.

Please be reassured that families will continue to receive personalised updates and identifiable photographs of their own child securely through iConnect, ensuring you remain connected to your child’s experiences, achievements and development.

We understand this may feel different for some families and we welcome open conversations and questions. As always, our responsibility is to place children’s safety, wellbeing and rights at the heart of everything we do.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

With warmth,
The Forest Friends Team 🌿

Still Outstanding 💚
Following our recent Ofsted visit a few weeks ago, we’re incredibly proud to share that we remain officially rated Outstanding.

The inspector recognised how our practice is truly child-led, with children at the heart of everything we do. They praised the warm, nurturing relationships across the setting, highlighting how confident, secure and happy the children are.

Our environments were described as calm, enabling and thoughtfully planned, giving children the freedom to explore, lead their own learning and express themselves.

Safeguarding and safety were also recognised as a real strength, with the inspector noting the robust procedures and consistent approach in place to ensure children and staff are kept safe at all times, both in and out of the nursery.

Most importantly, this recognition is down to our incredible team. The inspector highlighted the knowledge, care and consistency of our staff, and the genuine passion they bring every single day.

This is what Forest Friends is all about — children first, always 💚🌿

🌿 Meet the Team – Julie & Gary 🌿
At the heart of Forest Friends Childcare is something really special… family 💚

Julie and Gary, our Directors, bring a deep sense of care, values, and togetherness that runs throughout everything we do. As parents of our Managing Director, their influence has helped shape Forest Friends into the warm, nurturing, and community-led environment it is today.

Their support goes far beyond the day-to-day — helping to create strong foundations, a clear vision, and a setting where both children and staff feel truly valued and supported 🌱

You may not always see them in the rooms, but their presence is felt in the ethos, the environment, and the family feel that makes Forest Friends so unique.

We’re so proud to have such strong family roots at the centre of our journey 💚

Where children grow in confidence, find their voice, and begin to take those important steps towards the world beyond our nursery.

Our Big Bears team are there every step of the way — supporting, encouraging and celebrating each child as they become capable, curious learners 💚

From building friendships and problem-solving, to developing those key life skills, every day is filled with opportunities to grow 🌱
