Choosing childcare to suit your working needs is a minefield, and working out which provider will suit your child can be difficult. Doodle Dots childcare was set up in 2014 and has evolved to reflect the change in childcare needs and also of our own families. We offer home from home care which helps children learn and grow in a less structured and more organic way. The message at the heart of the EYFS is that every child is different, and we embrace this and ensure it is remembered at every stage of a child’s development. The photos on our page will give you an idea of the fun we have and we hope you take time to look though them and get a feel for us.
About us
We (Becky Loring and Jenni Jackson) started working together as Co-minders in December 2016. We each have our own houses and our own school aged children, as well as the facilities team (our husbands) and a couple of long suffering dogs called Doodle and Dotty. We have registered our settings separately, but are also registered in each other’s settings, which means flexibility for the children and parents.
Thanks to a change in personal circumstances and a little thing called Covid-19 we have changed the way that we work to ensure small bubbles. Jenni Jackson is currently running the full time Early Years setting from her home and Becky Loring is running a wrap around and holiday setting to coincide with a part time Teaching Assistant job. We are able to support one another in planning, resource, and idea sharing, whilst maintaining the social distancing required and Childminding can be a lonely job, surrounded by small people with no one to supporting our own career development.
OUR FEES EXPLAINED
Our fees depend on which service you require.
Early years childcare
Our hourly fee is £5.50 per hour, this includes all snacks, lunch and nappies/ wet wipes. If a child requires a particular brand of nappy or wet wipes then these may need to be provided from home, this can be discussed if required. Our hourly fee is applicable from 8am- 6pm. Free 30 hour funding can be used with this option.
For early years we have a minimum payment of 6 hours per day.
Nursery wrap around care
From September 2020 we can collect from Rainbow Nursery (at 3pm) and Little Footprints (at 4 pm) This gives parents the option to extend their child’s day to fit in with working hours. These fees are charged differently from our daily rate at £15 per session for collection from Rainbow and £10 per session for collection from Little Footprints.
Contracts
We offer four types of contract which we think cover the requirements of most parents. Please note these are subject to 4 weeks’ notice of cancellation or change and all fees are in advance (due on the 1st of every month)
Full time- If you require a full time contract then you pay for the weekly space you require all year round unless we are unable to offer care (the setting is closed for up to 4 weeks a year- dates are given well in advance) So if you require childcare Monday- Friday, 8 hours per day you need to budget to pay that even when your child is not in the setting.
Term time- This is the perfect contract for those who work in education or who can cover childcare in the school holidays. It keeps costs down as we do not require a retainer during the holidays. We offer these contracts to help with care in our children school holidays, therefore payment is not required in West Berkshires school holidays but will be required if your term dates differ from West Berks.
After Nursery care- Contract available for those needing childcare to extend their child’s day. These are charged per session and not per hour.
Ad-hoc Holiday club- Look out for our holiday club adverts. Priced per day and not per hour they offer an affordable option for those with older children.
To hold a space we require 2 weeks payment in advance, this payment is non- refundable if you choose to cancel the contract prior to your agreed start date or within the settling in period. This is not applicable to Holiday club care.
