Reading Students' Union Helping students have the best time at the University of Reading! Students at the University of Reading are automatically members of RUSU.

From the advice staff working in the Advice, Representation & Campaigns centre to the student staff working behind the bar and the Student Officers elected by you to speak up on your behalf, we are all here to help you make the most of your student experience. As such, students are entitled and encouraged to direct the Students’ Union by attending the democracy meetings as well as voting for Student Officers who represent the student body on campus, locally and nationally. RUSU provides over 100 student representation groups, societies, sports clubs and volunteer groups to help enrich students' experience. The Union also offers independent advice on anything from immigration to finance and housing to education through our Student Advice team. As a charity (No. 1140375), all of the money that is spent in RUSU is reinvested back into the services we provide.

✨SU Presidents September recap✨

They’ve been hard to pin down this month! Between a board meeting, a University Council meeting (the University’s highest board), countless committee meetings, and even a visit to Little Learners Nursery featuring some very cute resident guinea pigs (see slide *🥺).

They’ve had the opportunity to represent Reading Students’ Union at an International Students Speech and a Partnership showcase event.

The Presidents went global...sort of. They travelled to Lincoln for a partnership and networking visit with Lincoln SU, before heading off on a Trustee Board residential, where the trustees came together for an away day in Wokingham.

Alongside all of this, they’ve been hard at work delivering on their manifestos and making improvements to your student experience. Highlights include completing the Wellbeing Room refurb (The Lighthouse) and Ellie launching her Safety Packs just in time for Freshers Week.

And speaking of Freshers Week... they absolutely packed it in! You might have spotted them them at lecture shoutouts, hello neighbour, Get Togethers, Welcome To University, Cinema Night, Colour 2k, and even Bingo Lingo (that one may have been just for fun😛).

⭐️It’s safe to say your SU Presidents have hit the ground running and are already working hard to make this year the best is can be for Reading students.

🫶Free sanitary products are now available across your Students’ Union!🫶

We’re incredibly pleased to share one of that SU President James’ manifesto commitments has become a reality, improving access to free sanitary products.

In his first two months in office, James secured the funding and approval needed to install free tampon and pad dispensers in all female and gender-neutral bathrooms inside your Students’ Union. And now, they’re officially installed!!🎉

What is the Advice Service?🫶✨

At Reading Students’ Union, we’re here to support you from your first year right through to graduation.

Our Advice Service is free, confidential, and independent from the University, providing guidance and support throughout your time at Uni, if and when you need it.

💫Whether you’re having issues with a landlord, navigating an academic misconduct process, or simply looking for energy saving advice when keeping rented homes warm, we’re here to help.

No question is too silly. If we can’t help you directly, we can signpost you to the correct service. 💬
