☀️ Making this summer one to remember at Sweet Pea! ☀️

What an incredible start to the summer holidays we’ve had! Our little Sweet Peas have enjoyed so many exciting adventures, including Active Play and Bounce, meeting the animals at Miller’s Ark, exploring soft-play centres and local parks, enjoying imaginative role play at Sparks Play Café at the YMCA, and picking delicious strawberries at Grays Farm Pick Your Own. 🍓🐐🛝🚜

These trips are enormous fun, but they also offer our children so much more. Every adventure provides rich, meaningful learning experiences across all seven areas of the EYFS.

🏃 Physical Development – climbing, bouncing, balancing, running and developing coordination and confidence.

💬 Communication and Language – sharing new experiences, asking questions, learning new words and talking about what we can see, hear and feel.

💕 Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building confidence, managing new situations, taking turns and creating special memories with friends.

📚 Literacy – recognising signs and labels, enjoying stories through imaginative play and recalling our adventures afterwards.

🔢 Mathematics – counting animals and strawberries, comparing sizes, noticing patterns and exploring space, shape and distance.

🌍 Understanding the World – meeting animals, discovering where food comes from, exploring our local community and experiencing different environments.

🎨 Expressive Arts and Design – using imagination, taking on roles, creating games and expressing ideas through movement and play.

We truly believe that some of the most powerful learning happens when children are out exploring the world around them. These experiences enrich our curriculum, spark curiosity and give our children opportunities they simply couldn’t experience within the same four walls.

We’re only partway through the holidays, and we’ve already packed in so much fun, laughter, discovery and adventure. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings! 💛

At Sweet Pea, we’re not just filling the days—we’re filling childhoods with wonderful memories. 🌼

This week’s sunshine has had us finding fun ways to beat the heat — and we’ve still been learning along the way! 🌊❄️

💦 Splash time in the paddling pool – great for building physical skills, learning about water safety, and developing confidence in new environments (Physical Development & Understanding the World).

🧊 Exploring ice play – the children loved feeling the different textures, watching it melt, and talking about why it happens (Communication & Language, Understanding the World, Science concepts).

🚿 Water play fun – pouring, scooping, and splashing encouraged problem-solving, hand–eye coordination, and mathematical thinking (Mathematics & Expressive Arts and Design).

🌬️ Chilling in front of fans – perfect for talking about how air moves and how we can keep ourselves comfortable in hot weather (Personal, Social & Emotional Development & Understanding the World).

There’s something truly magical about bubble play in the early years. Watching little ones chase, pop, and laugh at floating bubbles is not only heartwarming — it’s brilliant for their development too!

Why We Love Water Play at Sweet Pea Childminding! 💦

Water play isn’t just fun – it’s a powerful learning experience that supports every child’s development in meaningful ways! 🌱

Whether it’s pouring, splashing, filling, or exploring with different tools, water play engages children across several key areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):

1. Physical Development 🏃‍♀️✋
Water play helps develop fine motor skills as children grasp, pour, and squeeze. It also encourages coordination and strength – especially when lifting heavy containers or working with water wheels and funnels.

2. Communication and Language 🗣️📚
As children play together, they share ideas, describe actions, and learn new words. This rich, sensory experience naturally sparks conversation and vocabulary growth.

At Sweet Pea Childminding, we follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework to support your little one’s learning and development in a fun, loving environment!
