Climate Education and Citizenship Games Day!
As part of their Global Inclusion and Sustainability module, first-year BA Primary Education students designed classroom board games to support climate education in primary schools.
Students developed game boards, rules and activities linked to the Sustainable Development Goals and the National Curriculum, while also considering inclusive learning for pupils with Special Educational Needs.
The session showcased innovative and engaging approaches to teaching sustainability in the primary classroom, alongside thoughtful discussions around climate education and citizenship.

“So… how do I actually become a teacher?”
That was one of the questions we heard again and again at last month’s Graduate Recruitment and Internship Festival — and we loved every conversation that followed!
It was brilliant to meet so many students who are curious about teaching and exploring the different routes into the profession, from PGCEs to school-based training and beyond. We had lots of really thoughtful chats about what teaching is like day-to-day, and how rewarding a career in education can be.
A big thank you to everyone who stopped by the Institute of Education stall — it was a pleasure speaking with you and hearing about your plans for the future.

Once upon a flower…
Our campus isn’t just for students—it’s for bees too! In 2023, we gave our pollinators a little home: the Bee Hotel 🐝
Solitary bees now have a safe place to rest, while our flowers bloom a little brighter. Fun fact: over a century ago, bees were already part of campus life in the Horticultural Gardens! 🏫🌼
From history to habitat, our Bee Meadow is buzzing with life.. and learning 🫂

Every teacher can make a difference when it comes to climate and sustainability. I
At the University of Reading, our Climate Education & Sustainability Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Framework empowers trainee teachers to bring climate learning into the classroom, help children understand sustainability, and turn knowledge into action.
Piloted in 2022/23, this Framework is now freely available to other training providers-and it's been recognised with the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE)!

What started as Sunday rehearsals in April and May turned into one of the most vibrant moments of the Centenary RAG Parade 🥁✨
A huge congratulations to our BA Education students who led the IoE Dragon Samba through Reading town centre this year!
The students worked incredibly hard to learn the samba drumming, support younger children during rehearsals, and help create such an energetic and joyful parade atmosphere on the day. From drumming and singing to headdresses, face paint and marching through town, this was a real team effort — and the Institute of Education ended up being the most represented school in the parade!
We’re so proud of the professionalism, enthusiasm and care the students showed throughout the project, especially in the way they worked with children and supported one another.
An amazing collaboration between students, ITTSOC, Universal Voices and staff to celebrate the University’s centenary in style ❤️
