Congratulations to Lorna from Newbury Gardens Day Nursery on successfully completing her Level 3 SEND qualification!

This is a fantastic achievement and a true reflection of Lorna’s dedication and commitment to supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment and the positive impact this will continue to have on the children and families we support.

Recently, the children and staff teams at Forbury and Berkeley Nurseries took part in National Storytelling Week, and what a wonderful week it was!

At Forbury Nursery, each room embraced storytelling in creative and engaging ways:

The Chicks room created their own version of a familiar story, titled “That’s Not My Bubble”, inspired by the children’s current interest in bubbles. They made textured bubble props for the children to explore and hold during story time, creating a lovely sensory experience.

In Ducklings, the children explored The Hungry Caterpillar. They created their own story props, including transforming a Pringle tube into a caterpillar. The children made the foods from the story and enjoyed posting them into the caterpillar, combining storytelling with fine motor skill development.

Goslings created their own Peppa Pig story. The children contributed their own ideas and words to help write the book and used real-life items as props to support their storytelling, encouraging confidence and imagination.

The Cygnets made character spoons to match The Gruffalo story, allowing each child to hold a character as the story was read and actively participate.

In Swans, the children created all the props for Monkey Puzzle. There were enough for every child to hold one, ensuring that everyone could take part and feel included during story time.

At Berkeley Nursery, the children were equally enthusiastic:

Bumblebees created a story bucket based on their favourite farm story, bringing the book to life with interactive props.

The children in Ladybirds made Funny Bones masks and enjoyed imaginative role play inspired by the story.

In Caterpillars, the children created wooden song spoons featuring scenes from their favourite books and made a range of story props to enhance story time. They also took part in vehicle-themed activities, including painting with cars to explore the tracks they leave, building garages using magnets, and exploring diggers in the sand tray. The children were fully engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the themed week.

The Butterflies team entertained the children with a fantastic Gruffalo puppet show, and the children in Dragonflies acted out The Gruffalo story outdoors in the garden, combining storytelling with movement and drama.

It was a truly enjoyable week across both nurseries. The children were highly engaged, creative and enthusiastic, and it was wonderful to see storytelling used to support communication, imagination and learning across all areas of development.

On Saturday 20th December, we celebrated the end of 2025 with a Christmas party at Reading Town Hall. A fabulous night was enjoyed by all, with each nursery given the opportunity to announce their Employee of the Year.
Huge congratulations to Cameron from Forbury Nursery, Charlotte from Berkeley Nursery, Scarlet from Newbury Nursery, Courtney from Woodley Nursery, and Charlotte from Waingels Nursery.
