Turning ideas into action. 💡
Our Eco-Council have made such a difference to our school this year, challenging themselves to take action and improve the world around them. Their research into how our school operates and potential improvements has led to:
♻Recycling bins in every classroom.
🌼A biodiversity wall with flowers and strawberry plants.
🍅Thriving potato and tomato crops.
🐞A bug hotel they designed and built together.
They have been busy watering, weeding and caring for all the areas they have developed, learning that lasting change requires ongoing effort and responsibility. We are very proud of them all.

Congratulations to our Year 5 Mathematicians!
Today they took part in a Maths Masterclass at the nearby River Academy, competing against other local schools with the support of pupils from the Academy.
They solved over 100 Maths questions in two hours, including group, puzzle and relay rounds. Their enthusiasm, energy, teamwork, and attitude were very impressive, and we are proud of them for their fifth-place finish against some tough competition.
What a great opportunity to test their skills against other schools and experience a senior school setting in the process.

Fun on the farm with Nursery.
Last week they enjoyed a day out at Bucklebury Farm & Deer Safari Park. This was a great opportunity to make real-world connections to their classroom learning this half-term, all about farm animals and their babies and different roles on the farm.
They got to meet donkeys, chickens and goats, feed the deer and finish the day off with fun in the playground. We loved seeing our youngest learners exploring, discovering and playing together beyond the classroom.

A huge well done to our St Edward's athletes.
Yesterday they competed alongside hundreds of children from nine other schools in the Wishford group, in the second annual Wishford Athletics Day. What a fantastic opportunity to test their skills in a professional stadium and demonstrate all their hard work.
We had some impressive performances across field and track events, and the children showed great resilience and determination. It was lovely to see them cheering each other on and offering care and support when a little extra motivation was needed.
Well done to everyone who took part. We can't wait for next year!

Pedal power!
Lunchtime drinks came with a little extra challenge last week as our caterers, Chapter One, encouraged the children to make their own smoothie creations, powering the blender themselves to really earn their treat. There were also lots of different flavour combinations on offer for them to try.
Presenting new foods to explore, serving traditional dishes from around the world, marking important celebrations and creating fun, themed lunches are all part of our in-house catering team's commitment to ensuring children enjoy their food, eat a healthy, balanced diet and understand where their food comes from.

Three cheers for St George's! 🏏
Last Friday we were rewarded with perfect cricket weather for our annual House tournament. Held at our sports ground at Sulhamstead & Ufton Cricket Club, it was wonderful to see so many families there supporting the children as they competed to see who would be victorious this year. 🏆
Well done to everyone who took part, for their teamwork, determination and resilience. It's always lovely to bring our community together so they can see the results of the children's hard work. Congratulations again, St George's and to our Players of the Match for Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6. 🏴

Maths Challenge superstars! 💫
Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 children for their excellent results in the recent Junior Mathematical Challenge run by the UK Maths Trust. With children up to Year 8 from across the UK entering, it was impressive to see some Bronze Awards already in Year 5.
We are particularly proud of our Head Boy, who achieved a Gold Award and will now proceed to the next challenge, the Kangaroo round. We wish him lots of luck!
Children across both classes showed great commitment in their preparation for the challenge, benefiting from their lessons with our Maths specialist, including extra enrichment sessions to challenge and support them to reach their full potential.

🐝 Happy World Bee Day! 🐝
Year 2 were our official bee ambassadors today, buzzing round the school as different types of bees and raising awareness of their cause. Their colourful, creative posters are displayed for everyone to see and they have been busy sharing bee facts with us all.
Their classroom was the main hive of activity, where they have been:
🐝Designing bee islands where bees will thrive
🐝Making their own clay bees
🐝Coding routes for the Bee-Bots to pollinate flowers
🐝Having a sewing bee and sewing bees
Their aim this half-term has been to explore the connection between humans, bees and plants and how the environment encourages biodiversity. We think they're ready to spread their wings!

We are saddened to hear the news regarding the possible closure of St Joseph’s College. St Joseph’s has been part of the Reading school community for many years, and we know how important that community has been for the children and families it has served. Our thoughts are with all of those affected during what will be an uncertain and emotional time.
At St Edward’s, we pride ourselves on being a warm, family-focused prep school where every child is truly known as an individual and supported to thrive across all areas of school life.
We understand that many families may now be considering their next steps and, if helpful, we would be very happy to offer support and guidance. We are currently offering:
• Individual tours starting immediately
• An Open Morning this Friday 22 May
• Opportunities for children to attend taster sessions and informal assessments
Please do get in touch with our admissions team if we can help in any way.
