A garden to grow alongside the next generation in Shinfield.

In our centenary year, we're inviting local families to help create a new Tree for Life Garden, in a brand new project on University land at The Ridge.

Inspired by an idea from a Shinfield resident and created with local charity Freely Fruity, 36 families will have the chance to plant a tree marking the birth or adoption of a child, creating a living legacy of 2026 for the community.

Families can help plant their tree this autumn and watch it grow alongside their child in the years ahead.

It's a small but lasting way we can use our land to support our neighbours, create greener spaces and celebrate the community we're proud to be part of.

Botanical University Challenge - like University Challenge, but with plants…

And tomorrow, you can watch the 2026 final for FREE, either live at the University of Reading or online.

Ten years ago Botanical University Challenge (BUC) was created at Reading to test students knowledge of plants, ecology & conservation, horticulture and agriculture.

The competition has grown and grown, blossoming into an annual event featuring teams from across the UK.

Tomorrow sees the 2026 final return to Reading, with teams from the universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin, who will compete to be crowned BUC2026 champions.

And there are still places available to watch the competition as it happens.

✨ What a memorable weekend celebrating our global University of Reading community in Malaysia!

Saturday was a truly special day as the University of Reading Malaysia held its graduation ceremonies. We were honoured to welcome Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, as she received an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of her outstanding contributions to education, literature and community service. As Her Majesty joins the University of Reading family, we are delighted to welcome her to our global alumni community.

Graduation is always a special occasion, filled with pride, achievement and new beginnings, and this year's ceremony was made even more extraordinary by this historic moment.

Congratulations to all of our newest graduates as they begin the next chapter of their journeys. We look forward to seeing all you will achieve.

The celebrations continued into the evening with our University of Reading Centenary Celebration Dinner, bringing together colleagues from University of Reading and University of Reading Malaysia , alongside alumni, supporters and friends, to mark 100 years of our University's history, achievements and global impact.

The evening was made especially memorable by the inspiring contributions of our alumni speakers, who shared personal stories of their time at Reading and reflected on how the University has shaped their careers, ambitions and futures. Their experiences highlighted the lasting impact of a Reading education and the incredible strength of our international alumni community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to make this such a special day. From welcoming our newest graduates and an inspiring new alumna to celebrating a century of achievement, it was a wonderful reminder of the lifelong connections that make our global Reading community so special.
