We were delighted to welcome representatives from the Department for Education and Arts Council England to Berkshire Music Trust this week, showcasing our work across music education, inclusion and community music. 🎶

From observing a whole-class cello lesson at South Lake Primary School, to visiting Reading Music Centre and our student inclusion programme at Newbury College, it was a great opportunity to share how we're working towards our vision of making music for everyone.

Dawn Wren, CEO of Berkshire Music Trust, said: “It was a real privilege to welcome representatives from the Department for Education and Arts Council England. The visit gave us an opportunity to showcase the tremendous progress we have made in recent years, engaging more children in high-quality musical experiences and creating clear pathways for them to develop their talents. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved through the dedication of our staff, schools and partners, and we look forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead.”

We were incredibly proud to see Berkshire Youth Symphony Orchestra perform on Saturday evening as part of the prestigious Windsor Festival in the magnificent setting of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Led by Musical Director Jonathan Burnett, BYSO were joined by exceptional soloists: Taylor Sewell (Percussion) and Olivia Clark (Harp), the respective Berkshire Young Musicians of the Year 2025 and 2026, alongside Luca Jan Taylor, our 2026 Berkshire Young Singer of the Year. 🎶

A huge congratulations to everyone involved, and a special thank you to Windsor Festival for giving our young musicians the opportunity to perform at such a remarkable event. ✨

🎺 A reminder for Berkshire’s young woodwind and brass players! 🎷

Entries for the Berkshire Young Musician of the Year 2027 competition are open, and we’d love to hear from talented young musicians across the county.

In partnership with Windsor Festival and Bradfield College, the competition gives young performers the chance to showcase their talent across three stages, culminating in a live final at The Old Court, Windsor on Sunday 21 March 2027.

🏆 There are fantastic prizes to be won, as well as the opportunity to perform alongside other talented musicians of a similar age.

📹 Video entries must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 27 November 2026.

This October, Berkshire Youth Symphony Orchestra takes to the stage at the stunning St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, as part of Windsor Festival. 🎶

Join Musical Director Jonathan Burnett and the talented musicians of Berkshire Youth Symphony Orchestra for an inspiring programme featuring:

• Debussy – Danse Sacrée et Danse Profane
• Saint-Saëns – Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso
• Mahler – Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen
• Sibelius – Symphony No. 1

The concert will also celebrate some of Berkshire's finest young talent, with performances from the Berkshire Young Musicians of the Year 2025 & 2026 and Young Singer of the Year 2026.

🎥 Need to film your entry for Berkshire Young Musician of the Year 2027? We can help! 🎺🎷

We know that recording a competition entry can feel like a challenge, so we're making it easier!

Young musicians can book a slot at Reading Music Centre, where you can simply turn up, play your chosen piece, and we'll take care of filming and uploading your entry for you.

📅 Available slots:
• Saturday 24 October (morning)
• Friday 20 November (evening)

Can't make either date? Other options may be available – email Jess to discuss.
