Happy 2025!

Have deleted this time zapping app for most of the second half of 2024 and highly recommend to all- I downloaded it this morning to check if my fav coffee shop is open… it’s is ()

When you say you are too busy or don’t have time for something for your health and family- check your phone usage and socials time 😅 it’s a little reminder that time is precious and use it wisely!

Not feeling the need for an overshare post anymore but when you have to prioritise health and family it’s brings so much clarity when coming out of in-the-thick-of-it adulting!

Going into the year with what I have been riding the past few years and hope it inspires you to prioritise what’s really important in life:

HEALTH AND FAMILY ARE THE ABSOLUTE WEALTH

REST AND TIME TO BE IS THE BIGGEST LUXURY

“HAVING IT ALL” REGULARLY MEANS NEGLECTING IMPORTANT AREAS AND YOUR NEEDS.

I think particularly as women we have been raised to do it all and be the super mum working, raising, cleaning, socialising etc etc…. This narrative only raises stress and pressure so remind yourself having it all is impossible from a societal POV and think about what you do have and areas you need support to put your health and family at the centre.

Peace out for the rest of the holidays, listen and advocate for your needs and know you are always doing your best, and the best is all our kids need!

Here for all the midlife clichés

Turning 40 this summer, I’d always expressed throughout my 20’sand 30’s that I would have a spectacular midlife crisis and move to Bali, alone.

I really wonder where from such a young age this assumption I would struggle came from? Eat, pray, love was my ultimate book and movie at the time but there was definitely more to this…

Perhaps that I had been struggling for most of my life with anxiety and always travelling to perhaps escape (although I REALLY do love travelling so it’s also a huge part of me)

—-

The past ten years I have put so much time and effort into me, learning, making mistakes along the way but trying to find a way to not be anxious regularly.

All the cliches have rung true for me and particularly in the social media world it can all feel abit “for the gram” but honestly eating well, nature galore and sitting (uncomfortably) with what I am feeling and experiencing has slowly led me back to me.

When you go through a period of enlightenment it can be pretty validating and light bulb moments, but it can also be vulnerable, scary and you look at the world with a whole new set of eyes.

The lives we lead can be what we want them to be.

As someone who is currently “patiently” waiting to see if I am now an early menopauser (something we don’t know until that year is up and I’m 7 months in this round) I have gone through every emotion including grief (for the finality of no more children), rage (at society and s*x Ed that scared as about becoming pregnant but didn’t prepare us for this), disappointment (that there is no easy way to access informed choices on support for perimenopause).

So why the honest post? Because I sit with women and listen to their crunchy life moments regularly and I think it’s important to share as it normalises and supports others.

Trust me when I say I am winging it but just by allowing myself to sit with what I am experiencing rather than chasing to fix it has truly helped my experience.

Would love to chat with anyone other early ‘pausers and what you’ve found useful. I’ll share along the way too ❤️

Mainstream birth prep bangs on so much about protecting and promoting oxytocin during birth.

Where are we promoting and protecting it during pregnancy?

Oxytocin steadily rises during the later part of pregnancy….

Our nervous system works hand in hand with our hormones.

It’s so important to be using your birth tools during your pregnancy not just once our body starts to signal our baby is ready to be born.

It’s so important we feel connected and undisturbed during our pregnancy

It’s so important to trust and have a solid support system around us during pregnancy

—-

The lack of continuity of care during pregnancy, increase in tests (without explanations), increase in risk adverse care and lack of individuality in our medical systems all slowly chip away at our nervous system.

Ignoring or burying fears, not respecting our lived and living experiences and not having wholehearted support from friends and family all slowly chip away at our nervous system.

—-

When our baby signals to our body they are ready to join us Earth side….its not just a switch to bring out the tools.

We need to be using our tools as much as we feel we need them- not a chore but using them intuitively.

—-

Listen to what you need tonight
Honour and respect what your body, mind and baby need

This is all the birth prep we really need- listening and responding, feeling supported and connected to our babies.

The rest will flow ❤️

Mothers need support

Wishing you gentle Sunday vibes and for all the 😫moments today try to think what you need rather than trying to change your baby or child.

It’s really wild when you we think about it.

We are parents forever but just how many people influence or push decisions from a tiny fleeting moment and we never see them again.

The healthcare professional who claims your baby is too small/ too big? Do they come see the perfectly healthy baby?

The healthcare professional who looks at a graph and sabotages how you feed your baby? Do they see the perfectly healthy baby? Do they consider at your birth and your well being? Have they asked you your thoughts and what you think your baby needs?

It is becoming the norm for stats and data to rule how we birth and parent rather than us as parents doing what feels right for us and our family.

The mother/ birthing person dyad is the most powerful of relationships to ever be experienced.

Pure love

Our modern world can tap tap tap at a mother and parent’s well being to slowly but surely disconnect this bond.

We might arrive at parenthood already with this disconnection from how we were parented and our lived experiences, trauma and societal conditioning.

We are missing a huge point in birth preparation of how we are going into parenthood.

Our wellbeing matters
Our lived experiences matter
Our relationship with our self matters
Our community support matters

Putting yourself at the centre

Want to connect in to your power as a parent?

Check at my offerings this autumn to slowly connect back into you.

No quick fixes here, parenthood is a long game!

All our funded offerings at FBTS as a CIC sadly but truly come from hearing so many of our community’s trauma as parents.

Since running FBTS…

I hear more birth trauma than positive births
I hear as many feeding traumas

Why we offer what we did and do is because our society is failing parents. We navigate such a nuanced time through a highly unindividualised system.

For all the positive births I do hear- so much “work” and journeys have been taken by parents (on their own accord) to have their own subjective positive experience.

Trauma can often blend into on going disconnection from parenthood and we busy ourselves to try to forget

Our bodies don’t forget

Respecting trauma is the gateway to ongoing health and happiness

Don’t wait for the pregnancy of your second or third baby to face the trauma and the all too common “have a birth nothing like that first one”

A debrief isn’t click of the fingers and make it all go away offering.

A debrief is a supported, contained time to release your experience.

A debrief is the biggest self respect if you are doing the all common self gaslighting of “others have it worse” or my least favourite saying “Atleast I have a healthy baby”

A debrief can bring some gentle lightbulb connections of why other parts of parenthood have perhaps felt harder than you expected.

Debriefs can be a one off, alone, with a partner, each individually and can be as many as you need.

Starting with the first one and you lead and listen to what you need onwards.

—-

I have supported hundreds of parents by listening, validating and signposting.

Trauma is not prescriptive and wholly subjective - what might seem “positive on paper” is only positive by how you experienced it. This might differ to other people experiencing the same thing.

Please email [email protected] to arrange a suitable time either in person in Ramsgate or online so you can start your journey to self validation and respect.

❤️CALLING ALL EXPECTANT PARENTS ❤️

Putting yourself at the centre of your pregnancy WILL totally level up your pregnancy, birth and post partum.

We spend a lot of our focus leading up to birth thinking about the discomfort that we may experience birthing our baby.

How much energy do we spend keeping our adrenaline down during our pregnancy, birth and post partum rather than focusing on the fear of something that hasn’t yet happened and we can control how we experience?

If our adrenaline is pumping we will feel things more intensely, our birth can be a little bumpier and most of all- the experience and well being of both mum/ birthing person and baby is impacted.

——

Knowledge is absolute power

Connection and validation gives you the answers to what you need in the moment

Regulation is key to keeping adrenaline at bay

Trust in your body, baby and those around you is vital

Being led by your body and baby’s needs is a game changer

Our health and well being is a long game.

Our babies health and well being is a long game.

Birth choices and experiences are life changing- physically, mentally and the all important family attachment.

Rushing into decisions due to fear, pressure and a guideline built for a system is not how parents should be supported into choosing what is right for them and their baby.

THERE IS ALWAYS TIME

Time to ask
Time to understand
Time to question
Time away
Time with those that know you the most

Most importantly: time with your baby- connecting in and let our powerful intuition shine through and guide us.
