Designing and making a soft toy is a popular choice as part of teaching textiles in primary design technology. Our Charity Soft Toy project allows children to design a product that is real-life and relevant. This project provides opportunities for children to:
Develop and consolidate their sewing skills, including embroidery techniques and learning the overstitch technique.
Design pattern templates and using a seam allowance when joining two pieces of textiles.
Apply a range of decorative techniques when using fabrics.
Use a mood board to develop their ideas.
Create and use flow charts when designing and making a product.
Evaluate their product by considering its purpose and function.
