🏆 BRGS RESULTS 2026 - STUDENT SUCCESS SERIES 🏆

⭐ PIPPA SCORES AN OUTSTANDING 340! ⭐

What an incredible achievement!

We're absolutely delighted to celebrate Pippa, who achieved a remarkable 340 marks in this year's Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School entrance examination — an astonishing 64 marks above the qualifying standard of 276! 🎉

Pippa's success is a wonderful testament to her hard work, determination and commitment throughout her 11+ journey.

At A Star Tuition Group, exceptional 11+ preparation goes far beyond practising familiarisation papers. Our Exam Accelerator Programme follows a carefully structured, three-stage approach:

🌱 BUILD — Strong foundations in Maths, English and Reasoning, developing knowledge, skills and confidence.

🚀 ACCELERATE — Expert teaching, structured homework, personalised feedback and targeted practice to strengthen weaker areas and tackle challenging questions.

🏆 PERFORM — Full-length, in-person mock examinations in a formal examination hall, developing the confidence, speed and test technique needed for the real thing.

It's this combination of expert teaching, personalised support and purposeful preparation, alongside Pippa's own effort, that helped her achieve such an exceptional result!

Pippa, you've been an absolute star! ⭐ Congratulations!

I would highly recommend A-Star Tuition!Helen is a great teacher who genuinely cares about her students.Helen was very accommodating in supporting my daughter late into the 11+ cycle. Helen is extremely knowledgeable about the 11+ process - supporting her students on content and study skills as well as being there for parents on the journey! The mock exams and individual detailed reports Helen produces from these were so helpful for reducing nerves about the test and for understanding if there were any key areas to focus on.Thank you Helen!

🎉IT'S HERE! OUR BRAND-NEW WEBSITE IS OFFICIALLY LIVE!🎉

I am absolutely thrilled to unveil the NEW A Star Tuition Group website!

This is a particularly proud moment for me.

When I founded A Star Tuition Group back in 2008, I had one clear ambition: to make a meaningful difference to children's education, helping them develop the confidence, skills and knowledge to achieve their potential.

Eighteen years later, that passion is stronger than ever!

After months of planning, developing and refining, I finally have a website that I feel truly reflects the business I've worked so hard to build — its values, achievements and commitment to educational excellence.

🏆 And what a year to launch it! In 2026, A Star Tuition Group was named Best Personalised Academic Tuition Provider in Greater Manchester at the SME News Business Elite Awards.

Our new website brings together everything I'm proud of: our specialist tuition programmes, wonderful student success stories, award-winning achievements and the personalised approach that makes ASTG special.

🎥 I've recorded a special welcome message for you! Head over to our brand-new website to watch it, explore everything we've achieved and discover how I can help your child reach their full potential.

Whether you're considering 11+ preparation for BRGS, looking to give your Year 3 or 4 child a head start, or exploring Maths and Science tuition for your teenager, there's plenty to discover.

If BRGS is the goal, now is the time to prepare.

Our Year 5 Exam Accelerator Programme (EAP) is already underway and there are currently just 3 places remaining.

The EAP is designed for families who want structured, comprehensive preparation for the BRGS entrance exam.

Students attend two live online classes each week, complete weekly homework, receive personalised feedback, use our dedicated Learning Hub and build towards full-length mock examinations.

What matters most is giving children enough time to develop the knowledge, exam technique and confidence steadily, rather than trying to compress preparation which leads to stress!

If your child is in Year 5 and BRGS is a serious goal for your family, you’re welcome to get in touch. Send me a DM or call 07815 121696

BBC 500 WORDS IS OFFICIALLY OPEN! ✍️📚

I’m delighted to share that, once again, I’ll be a judge for BBC 500 Words. I’ve been involved as a judge since the competition began 15 years ago and it’s something I continue to feel very proud to support.

Why do I give up my time to do it? Because encouraging children to read, write, imagine and enjoy language really matters. We need more opportunities that inspire children to be creators - to develop their own ideas, find their own voice and discover just how much fun writing can be.

My Achievers Plus students are already busy planning their own 500 Words stories, developing their characters, settings, plots and WOW vocabulary. There are some wonderfully imaginative ideas taking shape!

And now I’d love to encourage the children in our wider A Star community to have a go too. You don’t need to be the best writer in your class. You just need an idea and the willingness to let your imagination run with it. 🌟

Entries are officially open from today, Tuesday 29 September, and can be submitted until 9pm on Friday 6 November 2026.

So… what story could YOU tell in 500 words?

Good luck to every young writer taking part. 💚

Helen kindly agreed at short notice to tutor my daughter for her entry exam. Her Change in confidence has been amazing. Just wish we would have found her earlier. ThankYou again Helen.

That’s a wrap! 💚

The BRGS exam is over and from the feedback I’ve had, yesterday certainly tested more than just English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning!

There were some changes in the format, a very demanding Maths paper, a busy and noisy environment, firm invigilators giving instructions through megaphones and considerable congestion around the school.

For some children, that was a lot to take in. I heard of children who became overwhelmed, some who didn’t want to go in and others who left before the end.

That is exactly why our preparation is about far more than simply teaching content.

Throughout the Exam Accelerator Programme, I prepare students to cope with unfamiliar questions, time pressure, changes of format, nerves and those inevitable 'curve balls' that can appear on the day.

I was especially proud to hear that my students stayed composed, kept going and completed the exam, even when it felt challenging around them.

You can never control exactly what happens on exam day.

But you can prepare a child to respond calmly, adapt and keep going.

And that matters.

Well done to every child who sat BRGS yesterday. You did something difficult and you should be proud of yourselves! 💚

George has been with Helen since the start of the year on her Exam Booster course, which is designed for children preparing for the grammar school entrance exam who have come to tuition a little later\.She has worked diligently with George through a strong and structured programme, building both his technique and confidence\. She has also set focused practice between sessions and taught him approaches that, as parents inexperienced with the 11\+ process, we would have struggled to teach ourselves\.Helen makes the sessions fun while maintaining high expectations, and it is clear that her students are cared for with genuine compassion\. Her preparation for the actual exam experience is particularly valuable, helping children understand what to expect and ensuring they feel ready when the day arrives\.We have been really pleased with George’s experience and would highly recommend Helen to other families preparing for the grammar school entrance exam\.

BRGS TIP 5: LOOK AFTER YOURSELF 💚

The exam is nearly here. You’ve done the practice, learned from your mistakes and worked hard to prepare.

Now give yourself time to rest. Enjoy a relaxing evening, get a good night’s sleep and have something to eat before you set off.

When you walk into the exam room, take a breath and remember how far you’ve come. Trust yourself and give it your best.

I’m so proud of every student who has worked towards this moment. Good luck on Saturday - I’ll be cheering you on! ⭐
