.. and we’re back in egg chair land!
A few weeks ago now but look at our Stage 3 students working flat out …. on their phones 🙄- they’ve assured us they are just sourcing fabrics 😁 (a likely story 😉)

Like every stage 3 group they are finding the egg chairs a challenge - but they are definitely rising to that challenge!

Really enjoying watching our crazy bunch of AMUSF Stage 1 students gel together - although they do pick the strangest places to start looking at fabrics 🤩😂🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️

We are delighted and proud to announce that 2 of our lovely students - Sara and Kathy have been awarded 2nd and 3rd places respectively for their iron back chairs in the David James Student Award!
🤩🥳🤩🥳

They both worked incredibly hard and spent many painstaking hours creating these spectacular pieces of furniture.

Congratulations to them both, what a fantastic achievement!

Our Stage 1 AMUSF students joined us this week - what a great bunch of personalities.

After a few hours of informative chat, it was time for cake! (Of course 😋)

First job is always recovering the benches for a bit of practice with the staple gun.

Our leisure classes start again this week so it’s the perfect time to welcome Neil to our team 😁🤩🥳

Neil is a very experienced upholsterer and has been running evening classes with us on Tuesday and Wednesdays for a couple of terms now.
Tony and Neil go back a few years now and have worked together for over 15 years.

Neil’s classes, like Tony’s, are small informal and fun - he has the best chirpy personality and we have received such lovely comments about him (but we don’t want his head to swell 😁)

Our evening classes are currently full and we have opened our waiting list once again. If you would like to be added to the list, just let us know.

I had to laugh at Eleanor studying her chair - maybe she thought if she looked at it long enough, it would magically complete itself 😂😂 of course what she was actually doing was checking her pattern was straight 😊

It’s a busy workshop this week and these guys have been been with us from the very first year we started offering AMUSF qualification courses. Can’t believe we’ll be bidding them a fond farewell at the end of term! ☹️

Start of the new term!
Busy morning here in the workshop. Thank you to Gayle from Bourne and Bargery Accountants for coming in to talk about the Accounting aspect of our Business Studies for our Stage 3 students.
As always, food was factored in with a visit from the Cafe2u van 😋😋😋
We’ve all just realised it’s nearly May - 11 weeks until we say goodbye to these lovely guys - much to do before then! 😅 cracking on with their chairs!

Proof that the AMUSF Stage 3 students, between eating cakes, do actually do some upholstery. Yesterdays offering was a cream tea (because we missed out at the design show last week). A sneaky snap of the face behind our posts (the kylie calendar is not mine I hasten to add) however the coats are mine because it feels like it never stops raining in Somerset!!! Warmer, dryer weather must be on the way 😎 Do get in touch if you’d like any information on our courses. AMUSF Stage 1 for September 2023 is now full 🙏 places available for Stage 3.

Well this was a first! A homemade steamer for bending cane to go round the arm of a chair 😳 a source of amusement for everyone. Fun times.

This chaise looks amazing completed over a weekend and a few evening classes. This student has been coming for a quite a while and she’s producing some amazing pieces of furniture! Beautiful fabric, possibly ?? Perfect contrast with the yellow double piping 🤩🤩🤩

Our AMUSF students had a fantastic visit yesterday viewing the Frederick Parker collection at the London Met. Definitely recommend a visit.

‘Christmas comes but once a year!’ (No one would survive it more often than that 🫣)
I’ve been procrastinating this post - asking myself should I keep it short and sweet or offer my usual rambling thoughts.
Hmmm 🤔 Well, firstly a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our business this year, we are truly grateful. We are blessed with the most fantastic students who continue to wow us everyday. ☺️
On a personal level 2022 threw us many curves balls that continue to affect us, our families and our friends, it’s been challenging to say the least. 😔
Let’s face it, as a country we’ve not had a great year have we?
Let’s spare a thought for those facing crisis or not able, for many different reasons, to enjoy Christmas this year.
I’ll stop being maudlin and would just like you to remember, in the words of the great Nessa - “at the end of the day, when all said and done, and if truth be told - it’s just one day!”
Be kind to yourself and if Christmas is your jam MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Our AMUSF students Stage 3 egg chairs are coming along nicely. Just like our students, they have their own personalities 😊 don’t you think the mustard one resembles a pumpkin? 🤔 sorry Amanda 😊 I think everyone is relieved they have almost completed their first Stage 3 project.

Remember when I started stripping down one of our own dining chairs? 🫣
Well, it was October 2021!!!! Did I finish it? Of course not 😂 The chair kicked around the workshop for a year until last weekend we realised we needed it - Tony to the rescue. Happy with the results 😊
If I follow suit with the remaining 5 chairs, I should have them ready for Tony to upholster towards the end of 2027!!!! 😳😳 😂😂🙋🏼‍♀️
