Changes from September 11th 2023

We are always trying to keep our Nursery one of the most reasonably priced providers in the local area, but from time to time, we do have to review charges. As you are all very aware, everything has become so much more expensive in the last 18 months, including staff salaries and energy costs. We have tried to absorb the extra costs ourselves but we have now reached a point where sadly this is no longer possible.

Since January, we have provided a free crèche facility from 2.45 – 3.00pm, to help coincide with the end of the school day at 3.15pm. Unfortunately we will now have to introduce a charge of £2.50 from 2.45 – 3.15pm (or any part of the 30 minutes) if you wish your child to remain in nursery after normal opening hours. A lateness fee of £5.00 will also be incurred if your child is collected after 3.15pm.

Places must be booked and paid for termly in advance. If this is not done then we will expect your child to be collected at 2.45pm.

This week in Hedgehog Room, we have been exploring stars and colour. We have drawn circles and lines and used printing techniques to create our own stars. We will be giving our star pictures to the Midsomer Norton Deanery to use in their online Christmas carol services. We have also made our own lanterns using tissue paper and we have used the torches to explore what they look like in the dark.

This week at nursery the children have been exploring signs of Autumn. We have been on welly walks around the school as well as barefoot walks inside our autumn tuff spot. All this talk about Autumn has inspired some great printing and clay play.

This week at nursery we have been learning the story of the Little Red Hen. We have been so impressed with how quickly the children have picked up the repeating phrases. The story inspired us to make play dough, which we have scented with herbs from the garden. We have also continued using the role play area as a shop.

This week at nursery we have been exploring Harvest. Reverend Ian started our week off, by showing us lots of different seeds. He explained that seeds are all different and they all grow into different and unique plants, just like we are all different and grow into different and unique people. We have also been exploring the school gardens looking for fruit and vegetables. We used some of the things we found to print some harvest baskets and to sell in our role play shop.

This week, the children have been busy out in the sunshine scrumping for apples. We collected the apples and made them into apple tarts. The children also had fun trying to stack the apples into towers. Try it at home it is harder than it sounds. We have given some of the apples to Ladybird room, so they can explore printing next week.

Just a few photos to celebrate the children’s return to nursery. We have been really impressed by how well the children have picked up our new routines and thanks to all of you for your support. This week Ladybird children have been having their settling sessions and Hedgehog class have been looking closely at the things growing in our garden. The children have helped pick our tomatoes for snack and painted some beautiful sunflowers.

Friday 17th July
So today is the last day of nursery before the summer break. It has been an unusual year and we haven’t been able to say goodbye to many of you in person. Thank you for all your support, cards and thoughtful gifts. We wish all our pre-school children good luck in their new schools and we look forward to seeing our nursery children in September, when we re-open on Thursday 3rd September. Until then take care and enjoy the summer!

Thursday 9th July
We have added fish made from plastic bottles to our rock pools at nursery. We decorated our fish with acrylic paint and sharpie pens. We then used them to play a fishing game, scooping the fish out with tea strainers as nets. We used this activity as a counting and adding game. We each had two goes at scooping, so we had to add our two amounts together. If you child is confident with counting or you would like to reinforce numeral recognition, try writing the numerals on the fish and using then to add amounts together or fish to make a number line.

Wednesday 8th July
The children have nursery have been inspired by the story ‘Toddle Waddle’ to create their own small world beaches and rock pools. The children have talked about times that they visited the beach and we have shown them how to make postcards to send to share our memories on. You might like to work with your child to make a postcard to send to someone you haven’t seen in a while.
