☀️ With the recent hot weather, we know the temptation to cool off in open water can be strong. That's why we've been talking to our young people about the importance of staying safe around rivers, lakes, canals and reservoirs.

We've been raising awareness of the hidden dangers of open water, including strong currents, cold water shock, submerged objects, poor visibility, and the risks of swimming in isolated areas. These hazards aren't always obvious, but they can be life-threatening.

By having these conversations, we're helping our young people make safer, more informed choices this summer. We also offer swimming lessons to build water confidence, develop essential skills, and encourage safe enjoyment of the water.🌊

An example of some of the learning approaches we take at C&M Alternative Provision. ✏️

We believe in meeting young people where they are in their educational journey, helping them re-engage with learning in a way that feels achievable, relevant and rewarding. That often means using creative and unconventional methods to build confidence, develop skills and spark curiosity.

We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every student has different strengths, interests and ways of learning, and our role is to help them discover what works for them and build on it.

When students are given the right environment and support, the results can be remarkable. 🎓

Our students have been busy in our polytunnel areas over the past couple of weeks, planting and growing their own herbs and vegetables for use in the kitchen. 🌱

Along the way, they're learning far more than how to grow food. Activities like these help build patience, perseverance and responsibility, while giving students a better understanding of agriculture, horticulture, sustainability and where our food comes from.

We can't wait to enjoy the harvest! 🪴

Over the past few weeks, we've welcomed a number of new pupils to C&M Alternative Provision, each bringing their own unique strengths, needs and goals.

We're incredibly proud of how well they have settled into our provision, building positive relationships with both staff and peers from day one. It's been wonderful to see their confidence grow, their independence develop and their willingness to engage with new opportunities.

At C&M, we strive to create a safe, supportive environment where every young person feels listened to, encouraged and valued. Well done to all of our new starters! 🌟

With the recent spell of fantastic weather, we took the opportunity to host an impromptu Sports Day for our students!

From basketball challenges to classic egg-and-spoon races, everyone got involved and gave it their best effort. It was a brilliant morning filled with teamwork, laughter, friendly competition and plenty of encouragement from peers and staff alike.

At our provision, we know that learning happens in many different ways. Activities like these help build confidence, communication skills, resilience and positive relationships across all age groups.

A huge well done to all of our students for getting involved and making it such a fun and memorable day! 🏀🥚🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

For students who work best in collaborative environments, we also offer group classroom sessions alongside individual one-to-one support, helping to build confidence, communication and engagement alongside academic studies. 📚

For our older students currently preparing for their exams, revising together, discussing answers and working through tasks as a group helps encourage motivation, independence and a more positive approach to learning. We know that every student learns differently, and creating supportive spaces where young people feel comfortable and understood can make all the difference! 📝

MasterChef, eat your heart out! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Here’s a look at what our students have been cooking up since their Easter break as they continue to build their skills and confidence in the kitchen. From homemade cookie pie and Biscoff brownies to healthy kebab pittas - and even firing up the barbecue - it’s been a busy (and delicious) couple of weeks.

Our kitchen is at the heart of daily life here, giving students the chance to prepare their own lunches, try new recipes, and learn practical skills they can take home. One of our older students has even developed a real passion for cooking, so we’re supporting them as they explore it as a potential career alongside their academic studies. We’re proud to see their confidence grow with every dish they create!

This week the sunshine made a welcome return, and so did we! Back outdoors working hard on our Forest School area, just in time for summer 🌿☀️

This exciting outdoor space is home to group activities, a dedicated allotment where we grow our own produce for use in our on-site kitchen, and is also used as a space for our students to develop their hands-on bushcraft skills.

At C&M, we’re passionate about creating a balance between indoor learning and enriching outdoor experiences. Our goal is to offer a holistic approach that helps every child thrive.👩‍🏫

We’re jumping straight back into it after the half-term break, and it’s all systems go at C&M as we get our students’ brains fired up again.🧑🏻‍🎓

For students who find traditional academic work challenging, standard worksheets can often feel overwhelming or off-putting. That’s why we use alternative, engaging approaches that make learning the hard stuff more accessible, collaborative, and enjoyable - helping students build confidence without it feeling like a chore. 📝
