The Crafty toymaker was created in April 2020 after having to take redundency from a job I had held But what sort of business would it be? Should it be unique?

The Crafty Toymaker was created in April 2020 after having to take redundancy from a job I had held for 16 years. My partner had been accepted onto a PGCE course and we were suddenly faced with the predicament of a future with no income. I was determined to do something to support us, to allow my partner to continue with her aspirations of teaching and so, after meany years of dreaming about start

ing my own business, I decided this was the time to make that leap. All I knew was that I enjoyed making things out of wood, it had become my favourite pass time (besides spending time with my family) and I began to wonder whether I might be able to turn this hobby into a viable business. One evening my partner and I were talking about what might be the best thing to make. Decorative? Practical? After going round in circles for a while I asked her, “What kind of toys to you use at school with the children?” And that’s how this all began. So I set about trying to create some toys that not only the children would enjoy playing with but can learn at the same time.
