A little something from behind the scenes at Mama D’s…

We know there are lots of choices when it comes to where you dance and how you spend your money, so we’re always incredibly grateful when you choose to spend an evening, a tea dance or a music night with us.

Mama D’s is very much a labour of love, but there’s also a lot that goes into making it all happen.

There’s the venue, insurances, buying the music itself, DJs, our amazing crew, equipment, the website, the database, marketing and advertising to keep bringing new people into the Rock ’n’ Roll/dance community.

Then there are the extras that make Mama D’s feel like Mama D’s.

Our live bands can cost anything up to £1,200 for one event. Our tea dances come with cakes, refreshments and all the little touches we know people enjoy. In fact, the entrance money from the tea dances doesn’t always cover what they cost to put on, so money made from our weekly classes helps subsidise them and allows us to keep doing them.

We could strip things back, spend less and make everything a little more basic, but that’s never really been what Mama D’s is about.

We want great music, great teaching, brilliant bands, a warm welcome, a proper atmosphere and events that feel like people have had a really good day or night out, not just turned up for a couple of hours of dancing.

So yes, our prices reflect the fact that there are real costs behind what we do. But we hope they also reflect the quality, effort and love that goes into it.

Tea Dances £12/13pp

Most of all, we hope that when you go home from Mama D’s, you feel like you’ve had good value, a lot of fun and maybe slightly too much cake.
