Safe Sleeping in Our Nursery:
Sleep plays a vital role in a child's growth, development, wellbeing, and ability to learn. At our nursery, we are committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and nurturing sleep environment for every child in our care.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Welfare Requirements, current safer sleep guidance, and our nursery's Safe Sleep Policy to ensure children can rest safely and comfortably.
For babies, we provide a firm, flat mattress in a suitable cot or sleep space that is free from pillows, duvets, cot bumpers, soft toys, and loose bedding. Babies are always placed on their backs to sleep, helping to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
As children grow and develop, sleep arrangements are reviewed according to their individual needs and stage of development. Older babies and children may rest on clean, firm, breathable sleep mats specifically designed for nursery use. All sleep areas are carefully monitored to ensure children remain safe and comfortable throughout their rest period.
Our practitioners carry out regular sleep checks and ensure sleeping children remain visible and supervised at all times. Room temperature, ventilation, bedding, clothing, and each child's wellbeing are continually monitored to create a safe sleep environment.
Safe sleeping practices help to:
• Reduce the risk of SIDS.
• Prevent overheating and suffocation risks.
• Support healthy brain development and physical growth.
• Promote emotional wellbeing and learning.
• Ensure children are safe, secure, and comfortable while they sleep.
We also work closely with parents and carers to understand each child's sleep routine and individual needs, helping to provide consistency between home and nursery wherever possible.
Every child deserves a safe and restful sleep. By following safe sleep guidance and maintaining high standards of care, we can ensure children have the best possible environment to rest, grow, and thrive.
Safe Sleep. Safe Practice. Safe Children.
