I’m delighted to share that Ben Grant (OWL 2007) is performing his new solo show The Brown Ranger (which he has co-produced with Chichester Festival Theatre) in August. This show is to follow the imminent launch of CFT’s third creative space, The Nest.

He has kindly shared a bit of information about the show and, for those who would like to attend, the performance dates are included below

About the show:

When 7-year-old Thomas experiences his first racially charged encounter on the park swings one day, it sparks a sudden awakening — igniting a lifelong struggle to embrace his identity. He finds inspiration in his hero, the Brown Ranger, in a world that overlooks him; but with age, his battles become tougher, and his defender’s power begins to fade.
A brand-new solo show, created with a captivating blend of movement, visuals and an original score, The Brown Ranger is an emotional journey of self-discovery that oozes nostalgia - exploring the intricate relationship between art, belonging, and personal identity.

When:
• Monday 4th August - 8pm
• Thursday 7th August - 8pm
• Saturday 9th August - 2pm

Where: The Nest, Chichester Festival Theatre, Oaklands Way, Chichester PO19 6AP

Length: Approx 70 minutes

Themes:
Identity, Belonging, Coming of Age, Masculinity.
Content Guidance:
Racism, violence, strong language, references to traumatic historical events.

For more information, please visit the show listing on The Nest's official website: https://thenest.cft.org.uk/events/the-brown-ranger

Community Outreach:

During his time working on this show, he has also been facilitating creative writing workshops with schools and organisations in Chichester and the surrounding areas. He has experienced many positive and meaningful engagements so far, working with children with migrant and refugee status, neurodiverse young people with special educational needs, and community partners supporting those from underrepresented and marginalised backgrounds.

Last week we had the huge pleasure of welcoming back Thomas Langley (OWL 2020) to speak to our current Years 7 & 8 with a Diploma Dialogue about his incredible achievements of running 400km in 4 days last September.

In his talk he spoke of the physical and mental endurance of taking on such a feat - even more so for someone who admitted to not actually liking running!

Please give his Instagram page a follow (), support the cause and keep up with his incredible upcoming challenges, including Iron Man Wales in September and 800km in 8 days in November. These, and his 400km in 4 days, have been in aid of the wonderful Children in Need

Huge well done to Thomas and good luck!

Today we had the privilege of helping Kate Malden reach her impressive target of playing 100 pianos and raising £1,000 in aid of the mental health charity, Mind. Kate plays the piano by ear and has spent the past 6 months working towards her goal.

Kate arrived this morning having already reached 85 pianos and we were able to help her with her final 15, which were located all over the school. Her 100th was in our beautiful chapel and this was especially touching due to her family connection to the school. Kate is the granddaughter of Roger Malden (Windlesham Headmaster from 1953-1957) – he handed the position over to his brother, Charles Malden (Headmaster 1957-1994), when he moved his family to Africa in 1957.

Huge well done and congratulations to Kate!

If you would like to donate to such a worthwhile cause, please feel free to click on the link below and donate to Mind.
