For 2025 the Hanshi Michael Billman Memorial Shield has been awarded to Steve Glasson who has shown consistent determination and karate 'spirit' over the last year.

Steve joined the club early in 2025 and is a very deserving recipient of the shield.

Huge congratulations to Sensei Tracy, who at the weekend attended the BKF Four Nations competition in Edinburgh and placed 3rd in both the Kata and Kumite classes.

These are well deserved medals, and Tracy has already had them inscribed with a dedication to Hanshi Mick our Chief Instructor who sadly passed away last year.

Today would have been Hanshi Micks 79th Birthday, we all miss him and the vast knowledge that he brought to the club.

We continue to teach in the way that he taught us.

On Thursday 27th of February, Puckeridge Karate Club was very pleased to have Sensei Odysseas (Tone) Christou 8th Dan visit us from Colchester to teach, with him were fellow instructors Paul and Ian, and also his Son-in-Law Mark from the Chingford club.
It's been a long time since Sensei Tone last visited the club to teach, and as expected it was a lot of fun.
Both the Junior and Senior lessons were focused on Ippon kumite, with the Senior lesson using bunkai (applications) from kata.
Apologies for the lack of photos, but we were having so much fun we forgot to take any.
We look forward to having Sensei Tone back in the future. πŸ₯‹πŸ‘

Six black belts from the club went along to the Community Centre last night to give the Cubs a taster session.

They were split into 3 groups and had quick 10 minute sessions in Basic training, Kata and Sparring with a partner.

Then they were given demonstrations in more advanced sparring and kata, finishing with a short Q&A session.

I think we had almost as much fun as they did πŸ₯‹πŸ‘
