Thank you, Father Michael ❤️

Today we celebrate and give thanks for the wonderful gift that Father Michael has been to the St Matthew’s school community.

For nine years, Fr Michael has been so much more than our parish priest. He has been a constant presence at the heart of our school family- celebrating with us, praying with us, encouraging us, comforting us and, above all, sharing in the lives of our children.

From First Holy Communions and special Masses to school liturgies, celebrations, moments of sadness and the countless ordinary days in between, Father Michael has always made time for our children. He has had a remarkable ability to speak to them with warmth, humour and kindness, helping them to understand that their faith is not simply something we learn about, but something we live.

For our staff, he has been a friend, a wise counsel and a source of encouragement. For our families, a welcoming and reassuring presence. And for our pupils, he has been the face of a Church that is loving, joyful, compassionate and there for them.

But perhaps what we will remember most is the way Father Michael has made people feel. He has made our children feel valued. He has made our families feel welcome. He has made our staff feel supported. He has reminded us, time and again, that at the centre of our school is not simply education, but a community rooted in faith, love and service.

Father Michael, as you retire from active priestly ministry, we want you to know just how deeply grateful we are for everything you have given to St Matthew’s. Your legacy is woven into the story of our school and into the memories of generations of our children.

You have truly been part of the heart of St Matthew’s - and you always will be. ❤️

May God bless you abundantly in this next chapter of your life. May you enjoy the rest, laughter and happiness you deserve, and may you look back with immense pride on the countless lives you have touched.

Thank you, Father Michael, for everything. We will miss you enormously.

With love, gratitude and prayers from all of us at St Matthew’s. ❤️🙏

One day more…can you hear St Matthew’s sing?

What an incredibly emotional day! Today we said goodbye to our amazing year 6 children as well as friends from years 4 and 5. We are so immensely proud of each one of them and we are so grateful to you as parents and families for entrusting them to us. We wish them all every happiness and success in their futures and pray that they will continue to write beautiful melodies of life as they take their next steps.

Of course, we also said goodbye to the amazing and inevitable Miss Taylor. She has been such a wonderful member of our school family and she will be sorely missed. We wish her every happiness in her new adventure.

From me, I cannot begin to express the depth of love I hold for this community. You have welcomed me with open arms and made a home for me in wonderful Prudhoe. I will always treasure my time at St Matthew’s and I will hold you all in my heart as I write the next verse of my own Lifesong. It has been the honour of my life to lead this school. Thank you all so much.

We are so proud of our year 1 children who have been working hard to support north east homeless charity Streetworx. They held a bake sale then used the proceeds to make up little treat bags to share on the streets tomorrow. Amazing work year 1! ❤️❤️❤️

What a memorable day we have had at St Matthew’s!
We were honoured to be joined by Bishop Stephen for a special Mass to celebrate our 150th anniversary. It was a beautiful end to a year of fantastic events to mark this significant milestone in the school’s history.
We were delighted that former headteacher Mrs Pye could join us along with our soon to be new headteacher Mr Wheatley. It was a true celebration of our wonderful past, present and future.
Thank you to everyone who joined us.

Just look at these beautiful photos! 😍

Our amazing Reception children were a credit to us (as always) during their visit to and Prudhoe Library. The children enjoyed exploring the castle grounds, sharing castle stories and of course eating their packed lunches in the long grass!
We are so proud to be from Prudhoe!
