Fun play and learn activity sessions developing early phonic, writing and reading skills for preschoolers. Parents/Carers stay at sessions to join in with the fun and learning. This enables them to gather ideas and suggestions of ways to continue to support their children's learning once at home. Sessions are aimed at preschool children 2 years and upwards designed to foster those essential early
phonics, pre-reading and writing skills required before starting school! For those who are ready, activities provided also include 'next steps' in developing phonics, reading and writing skills such as: letter formation, blending to read, spelling and writing simple words, quick recognition and matching of letters (graphemes) to their sounds (phonemes)…
SOME OF THE MANY SKILLS OUR SESSION HELP TO FOSTER INCLUDE:
*Awareness of, and distinguishing between sounds within the environment
*Oral blending and segmentation of the phonemes (sounds) within simple words. An essential pre requisite for reading and writing.
*Hearing/recognising the position of phonemes (sounds) in spoken words (Beginning, middle, end)
*Correct pronunciation of phonemes (letter sounds)
*Visual discrimination (between pictures, shapes, orientation, size...)
*Letter recognition and discrimination (moving on to reading and spelling simple words using magnetic letters, as appropriate to individuals stage of development)
*Awareness of rhyme and alliteration
*Hand-eye co-ordination
*Fine and large motor skills
*A correct pencil grip and control
*Letter formation
*Holding, using and controlling scissors
