Last Friday we had our annual band photo with all members of our 3 bands where we got the chance to have a photo taken with all of trophies from the competition season. After the photo, we were presented with a cheque for a staggering ยฃ17,624.35! This was presented to us by Elliot who had raised the money through a crowd funder which was started earlier this month.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated. The money will go towards the progression and development of all members of our 3 bands.

On Saturday we had three current and one former pupil of the band perform with the newly formed all girls pipe band. The band was brought together by the Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust - SSPDT. They played at the hive stadium in Murrayfield as the Scotland Women's rugby team took on Australia. ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ ๐Ÿ‰

There were 18 schools represented across the band with the bass section being ran and organised by our very own Morven Walker Music. ๐Ÿฅ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

We are extremely proud of you all and we hope that this is the start of something special and the band can play again at more events to highlight the impact girls and women have in pipe bands.

We are, as always, Proud to be PL.

The bands were delighted to be asked to perform at the opening ceremony of the world sheepdog trials championships today in Lauder. It was a surreal experience as we followed 100 sheep down the road and had collies and handlers from all over the world follow us. It was a great day and it looks like itโ€™ll be a great competition.

Not a baaaaaaaaaaaaaad day at all. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Earlier on this year the branch was saddened to hear of the passing of Bill โ€œScoobieโ€ Black.

DM Bill 'Scoobie' Black was taught by Tam Blair at Monktonhall PB. Scoobie then joined the Royal Scots, rising to become an Army Champion, Leading Drummer and Drum Major. He played with Monktonhall, Prestonpans, Drambuie, Penicuik, Newtongrange and the Royal Scots Association Pipe Bands.

Scoobie had a flair for teaching, whilst based in Inverness, he taught many at Inverness Schools, he taught and brought through the young Corps at Penicuik, winning The Worlds and Champion of Champions, a feat he was to repeat a few years later at Newtongrange.

At Bill's funeral, a Band made up with players representing all the Bands he played for, played the corttege from the entry gates to the service.

The Drum Major Bill 'Scoobie' Black shield was bought and presented, from these players.

The decision was taken to present it annually at Peebles Highland Games, winning Drum Corps in Novice Juvenile B in recognition of his teaching work with youngsters.

It was fitting that the trophy went to Preston Lodge High School from Scoobie's Hame Toon, Prestonpans.

Pictured with the shield is Pipe Major Eddie Hanratty from McDougall McQueen Penicuk & District Pipe Band, and Alec Dudgeon both of whom were long time friends of Scoobie.
