'During 2014 I spent two days with Professor Alan Rice and his team at the Institute for Black Atlantic Research at the University of Central Lancashire, and it was immediately clear what important, inter-disciplinary, work was being produced in the Institute. We talked a little about the novel I had just completed, and discussed the possibility of a return visit to coincide with publication. I am delighted, and honoured, that IBAR has organized a two-day symposium around some of the themes that are examined in the novel, and brought together a first-class line-up of international scholars and artists for what promises to be an outstanding symposium.'
