Good morning, we have a little request β™₯️
We wondered if anyone would mind having Thunder, our autism service dog (cocker spaniel) for the occasional day when we go on a trip? The majority of the time we can take him with us but on the odd day it would be better if we didn't take him.
Thunder is used to being with people all day rather than on his own. If he is left alone, he will become quite distressed.
If you wouldn't mind and are local ISH to Ashton/Fulwood then please inbox Milly/Gemma.
Thank you in advance # #

☺️ Our awesome young people wanted to share some positive affirmations to make you smile this weekend.

🎨 We have been making Words To Live By posters, featuring mantras that help us with our worries.

πŸ€— Happy Weekend! Which one resonates with you?

β€œThey’re just playing.”

It’s a phrase we hear a lot β€” particularly as children get older, when learning is increasingly expected to *look* academic.

But play doesn’t suddenly stop supporting development because a child is no longer little. **It changes.**

Building becomes designing and making.
Pretend play develops into storytelling, drama and creativity.
Games become more strategic.
Social play becomes increasingly complex.
Interests can turn into projects, problem-solving and deep learning.

And underneath those activities, young people may be practising executive function, communication, planning, flexible thinking, self-regulation, negotiation and problem-solving.

So perhaps instead of asking:

**β€œBut what are they learning?”**

we need to look a little more closely at **what their brain is actually having to do.**

We’ve put together some of the research behind learning through play and what it can look like as children grow. 🌼

Have a read through the slides β€” I’d love to know if this changes the way you think about β€œjust playing”.

What a fantastic day we had at Bolton Abbey! πŸ’š

Our Wildflowers adventurers had the best time exploring the river, splashing in the water, catching crayfish and discovering all sorts of amazing little creatures living beneath the surface. 🦞🐟🌿

There was so much laughter, curiosity and teamwork as the children learned through play and connected with nature in the most wonderful way. Days like these remind us that some of the best classrooms are outdoors. β˜€οΈπŸ’¦

Thank you to everyone who joined us – we can't wait for our next adventure!

POST EDIT: πŸ™ˆπŸ˜… OOOOPS! We uploaded the wrong video! The full survival experience is in the comments πŸ˜±πŸ˜‚

πŸ—Ί WE SURVIVED!!! The children loved our Forest School Survival session last week.

🌳 We had to navigate our way to a safe clearing, make a shelter and start a fire to survive the night... and we did it!!

πŸ”₯ We all had a sticky, gooey yummy marshmallow treat to celebrate. What an awesome afternoon!

🌞 Summer holidays, home-ed style! We had a fantastic trip to Fleetwood and Clevelys beach!

πŸͺ£ We found so many cool creatures! From teeny shrimps to barnacles and even some crabs πŸ¦€

☺️ The children LOVED it! Sometimes it really is the simple things that are the best... sunshine, sea, a bucket and a net... creates an afternoon of wonder and discovery!

πŸ˜±πŸ™ˆ Oh my goodness... What has happened at Wildflowers this afternoon?!

🎭 Our young people have had a fantastic, fiendish afternoon learning Special Effects makeup with Ella! They have created gruesome cuts and bruises on each other, and all created a funny accident form about what has happened to them πŸ˜‚

❀️ We LOVE our theatre sessions with Ella, and wanted to branch out today with some behind the scenes makeup skills.

πŸ₯°πŸ€© The children loved it SO MUCH! Thank you Ella from all of us xx
