Remembering Freckleton – 23rd August 1944

As the sun sets on Freckleton this evening we pause to remember all those whose lives were lost in the Freckleton Air Disaster, one of the darkest days in the history of our village.

On 23rd August 1944, an American aircraft crashed into Freckleton during a violent storm. Sixty-one people lost their lives, including 38 children from Trinity School, along with teachers, local residents and American servicemen.

More than eighty years later, their loss remains part of the story of our school and our village. We remember the children who went to school that morning and never returned home, the families whose lives were changed forever, those who tried desperately to help, and all whose memories have been carried through the generations.

As a school community, we continue to honour them and ensure that their names and their story are never forgotten.

Loving God,
today we remember all those who lost their lives in the Freckleton Air Disaster.

We remember especially the children of our school, their teachers, the people of our village and the servicemen who died that day.

Comfort all those for whom the memories still bring sadness, and bless the generations who have kept their stories alive.

Help us to treasure our community,
to care for one another, and to be thankful for the precious gift of each new day.

May those who died rest in your eternal peace, and may their memory remain forever in our hearts.

Amen.

Today we’re thinking especially of all our former Freckleton pupils receiving their GCSE results.

Whatever that envelope brings today, take a moment to recognise just how far you have come. Your results are important, but they are not the whole story. They cannot measure your kindness, character, resilience, friendships or all the challenges you have overcome along the way.

Whether you are celebrating, feeling a little disappointed, or simply wondering what comes next, have confidence in yourself. There are so many new opportunities, experiences and adventures waiting for you. 💙💛

We hope that the foundations laid during your years at Freckleton continue to serve you well as you take your next steps.

To all our former pupils receiving their A Level results…

Today marks another important milestone in your journey, and everyone at Freckleton Church of England Primary School is thinking of you and wishing you well.

Whatever is written on that piece of paper, remember that your results are only one part of your story. They cannot measure your character, your kindness, your determination, the challenges you have overcome or the person you have become.

For some of you, today will bring celebration and the results you hoped for. For others, the path ahead may look a little different from the one you had planned. Either way, have confidence in yourself and in all that you have achieved. Sometimes the unexpected path leads us exactly where we are meant to be.

We hope you look back fondly on your time at Freckleton and know that your Freckleton Family continues to be incredibly proud of you.

As you take your next steps into university, apprenticeships, employment, a gap year or something completely different, go forward with courage, hope and excitement.

What an unbelievable day in the Lake District with Outdoor Education NW Ltd for our Year 6 outdoor day. In this heat there is no better thing to do but to cool off in the ghyll. Our children quite literally threw themselves into the day. To quote one of them, “This has been the best day ever!”
