This month, as part of our theme ‘Growth and Change’, both the Tweenies and Preschool have been exploring the fascinating world of plants and their growth. To celebrate World Book Day, we dedicated the week to learning about plants, which set the stage for our engaging planting activities.
The Tweenies had a delightful time reading ‘Sal the Seed’, and then they each planted a sunflower to take home. This will allow them to observe its growth first-hand. They also enjoyed a variety of group reading sessions throughout the day, sharing and reading books they had brought from home.
In Preschool, our featured book for the day was ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The children participated in an interactive storytime, where the story was brought to life with the use of puppets. After that, they got creative by colouring their own castles to place atop their beanstalks, which we planted in the afternoon. The children were excited to take these home and care for them while observing their growth. Additionally, we measured our heights against the beanstalk, comparing ourselves to see who was the tallest and who was the smallest in the class. The children engaged in meaningful conversations with their key workers, recognising their names and discussing their heights. Well done, Preschoolers! Later in the afternoon, the children had the opportunity to play in our "Jack and the Beanstalk" themed tuff tray, where they acted out the story with puppets and created scenes alongside their friends. It was a wonderful way to wrap up our World Book Day celebrations!

On Thursday 5th March 2026, each room adopted a different topic to celebrate world book day.
The babies had a wonderful time engaging with the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." They began by enjoying an interactive storytelling session, enhanced by the use of puppets to deepen their engagement. The little ones explored the various fruits that the caterpillar consumed. Later, during snack time, they had the opportunity to further investigate some of the fruits featured in the story. As they tasted the different fruits, the children enjoyed exploring their various textures and flavours while also discussing the vibrant colours. Following this, the children had fun at the ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ tuff tray, where they could practise their fine motor skills by placing the different fruits into the caterpillar's mouth. It was a busy but exciting day for the babies!

On Thursday, 5th March, the nursery celebrated World Book Day, and we all had a wonderful time. Take a look at the fantastic costumes the children wore! Every costume was brilliant. Some children dressed as characters from their favourite books, while others embraced this year's nursery theme of 101 Dalmatians, joining in alongside the staff. 📚🐾📖

This February half term, we’ve had so much fun celebrating Chinese New Year! Our Babies, Tweenies, and Preschoolers all took part in various engaging arts and crafts activities to mark the occasion. The Tweenies and Preschool children used their fine motor skills to create beautiful blossom trees and make dragons from recycled materials. They enjoyed exploring our Chinese-themed tuff tray, which helped them develop their fine motor skills while using chopsticks. They also practised their number recognition and mark making by tracing Chinese numbers with chopsticks. Children particularly loved trying out our Chinese-inspired dinners, with prawn crackers which the children particularly enjoyed. They were especially excited to take home a fortune cookie as a special treat as well.
Babies had a fantastic time engaging their senses through different Chinese New Year tuff trays and even made their own fortune cookies to take home. It’s been a wonderful week filled with exploration and fun!

This February half term all children throughout the nursery (Babies, Tweenies and preschool) have been spreading their kindness and generosity through participating in a range of activities for random act of kindness week.
The babies have been busy making cards to send to our local care/rest home and have enjoyed taking a walk down to the local care/rest home to pass on some daffodils and their card they have made to brighten their day and spread some happiness.
Meanwhile, Tweenies and preschool have been busy making clay flowers, painting them and placing them into mesh bags with a little poem in. We then headed out into the village today to hand out our handmade clay flowers to local businesses in the area while also choosing a range of places in the village to leave our handmade flowers for the residents and community to find and hopefully spread some smiles and happiness. The children are very excited to hear all about how their flowers have made you all feel.
If found please take it home and tag us in your post by adding Longton under 5s nursery/preschool into your post so we can show the children.
They would love to see how their kindness and generosity have left a positive impact on the community. 🌸🌻

Twinkle and Jingle (our nursery elves who was named by our preschool class) have had a lot of fun getting up to mischief throughout December in our preschool room. All the children have had lots of fun coming to nursery each morning and seeing what they have been getting up to.
However our nursery elves have unfortunately had to return back to Santa to help him out at this busy time of year. They stayed to watch the preschool Christmas performance and made their way back home. They did however leave a special surprise for the preschool children for doing such a good job during their Christmas performance. All children were sad to see the elves go but happy to receive their tasty Christmas surprise 🍫🎁

Children in need 2025
🔴🟡🟢🔵
On Friday 14th November 2025, all rooms across the nursery celebrated children in need through completing a range of fun and engaging activities which all the children thoroughly enjoyed while developing our fine and gross motor skills.
Tweenies and Preschool enjoyed jumping on Pudsey’s spots, using balloons as pudseys spots and enjoyed throwing and catching them before placing them on the parachute and making the room rain with colour for children in need. We also had a great afternoon making our pudsey paper plate and sorting Pudsey’s sports using the colour sorting circles as well as using our fine motor skills to place coloured Pom poms onto Pudsey bear in the tuff tray.
The Babies also joined the fun and enjoyed a morning decorating spotty biscuits and had an afternoon playing with the colourful balloons to celebrate.
We would like to thank all children and families who came dressed for the occasion and celebrated with us for such an amazing charity.

For our Remembrance Day theme this week, at circle time we talked about and looked at a poppy. We discussed how our poppies are to say thank you to our soldiers for keeping us safe and to commemorate Remembrance Day. Preschool and Tweenies then took a walk into the local village to look at all the poppies/flags and Remembrance Day displays before stopping at the church. At the church we had a look at all the poppy displays outside and were lucky enough to be invited inside the church to take a look at all the beautiful handmade poppies which were displayed inside the church. We would like to thank All Saints' Church, New Longton for providing this wonderful opportunity for the children and for sharing your poppy displays with us. Those handmade poppies were amazing and would like to thank you again for all your hard work that must have gone into creating these.
To finish off our visit to the church, Tweenies and Preschool stood around the poppies while completing a 1 minute silence to reflect. All the children did a superb job reflecting on our 1 minute silence. We were very proud of you all and you all represented the nursery beautifully. Well done Tweenies and Preschool !
