🏅 Pre-School, Infant and Junior Sports Day 2026 at Kirkham Grammar School 🏅
From egg and spoon races to sprint finishes and shot-put challenges, there was sporting prowess on display at every age.
With the sun shining (at some points!), families and friends gathered to cheer from the sidelines, creating an atmosphere filled with fun and community spirit.
One of the highlights of the day was seeing our older pupils supporting the younger children with enthusiastic cheers, kind words and plenty of encouragement. Those moments perfectly captured the values that make our school community so special - respect, kindness and looking out for one another.
While the medals and races are always exciting, Sports Day is about so much more than competition. Through sport, children learn resilience when things don't go to plan, teamwork when working towards a shared goal, and confidence through challenging themselves to try something new.
We are also incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated team of PE teachers whose expertise, passion and encouragement inspire our pupils every day. Their commitment helps children discover a lifelong love of physical activity.

Last October, a small but ambitious team of cadets embarked on a remarkable journey into the world of competitive robotics.
Initially launched with a base kit generously purchased by the Friends of KGS, and later upgraded with support from VEX Robotics, the team quickly demonstrated incredible resourcefulness, funding their initial tournament entry fees through school bake sales.
Their dedication rapidly translated into technical progress, honed during a development weekend at Inskip in December and a valuable practice scrimmage at Calday Grange Grammar School in February.
The cadet's preparation paid off spectacularly in April at the Northwest Qualifying competition at Inskip Cadet Centre, where KGS secured the title of Tournament Champion alongside Rochdale ATC. The team proved this was no fluke just weeks later, travelling to the Northeast Qualifying event at Warcop and once again taking home the Tournament Champion crown, this time in alliance with Wickham.
The team’s rapid ascent has been heavily propelled by the incredible generosity of local sponsors and the school community. Transformative funding from Addison Engineering, Sector Security and of course, the Friends of KGS, will allow the cadets to establish a brand-new junior robotics club for First- and Second-Year students, with the ultimate goal of developing a younger competitive VEX IQ team.
The future of engineering at KGS remains bright. ⭐

What a wonderful morning we had welcoming our future Nursery children and their families to Kirkham Grammar School. 🧸
Our little visitors enjoyed exploring, playing, singing and meeting new friends, while parents and carers had the opportunity to spend time in our setting and get to know the (very musically talented!) EYFS team.
Thank you to everyone who came along, including our Head of Sixth Form, Mr Partington, and his wife, whose little one will join KGS next spring.
We hope the session gave you a valuable insight into the safe, nurturing and creative environment that awaits your children as they begin their Nursery journey with us.💙

Congratulations to our Fifth Year pupil Philippa H on being awarded an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship - one of the most prestigious honours available to aspiring young engineers in the UK.
Awarded through a highly competitive selection process involving both an examination and interview, the scholarship recognises pupils with exceptional potential to become future leaders in engineering and technical design. 👏
Philippa’s success is the latest in a proud tradition of Arkwright Scholars from the school, following in the footsteps of former pupils A. Johnson, M. Homan, J. Jones and B. Firth.
We look forward to seeing where Philippa's engineering journey takes her next!

A special thank you to our Head of English, Miss Rooney, for serving as our judge and helping to make the competition such a success.
Congratulations to all of our Infant and Junior pupils who took part - we couldn’t have said it better than our I1 pupil, George S: “You should all be so proud of yourselves!”
A particular well done to our J4 pupil, Avianna K, who was awarded first place overall. 🏆

A truly unforgettable day for 23 Kirkham Grammar School pupils as they attended the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Celebration Garden Party at Buckingham Palace☀️👑
Bathed in London's glorious sunshine, our pupils joined fellow Gold Award achievers from across the country to celebrate the culmination of years of commitment and determination. The day featured inspiring speeches, notable guests, and, of course, the traditional tea and cake enjoyed in the beautiful Palace gardens.
It was especially wonderful to see old Kirkhamians reunited, with some returning from university to receive their well-earned award alongside friends, peers and teachers who have supported them throughout their DofE journey.
The celebrations were made even more special for KGS teacher, Mrs Newton, who was recognised for her outstanding service to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, honouring her dedication to helping generations of young people achieve their potential.
Congratulations to all 23 Gold Award recipients on this remarkable achievement. Your perseverance and adventures have truly paid off!
