Myerscough School of Veterinary Nursing

On Thursday, the sun shone beautifully for what is arguably our favourite day of the year – Graduation Day! 🎓☀️

We were incredibly proud to watch our lecturers, Chloe and Emily, alongside our BSc Top-Up students, FdSc students, and, for the very first time, our Level 3 Diploma students, walk across the stage and celebrate their achievements.
This milestone represents years of dedication, hard work, sacrifice, exams, assignments, and OSCEs. It was especially moving to see our newly qualified RVNs stand together to recite the RVN Declaration, led by Susan Howarth from the RCVS.

Congratulations to lecturers Rebecca and Natashia on successfully completing the Preparing to Teach certificate! Throughout the programme, they developed their teaching skills by exploring key areas including curriculum design, the educational blueprint, supporting neurodivergent learners, Bloom's Taxonomy, lesson planning, and inclusive teaching strategies. This achievement reflects their ongoing commitment to professional development and delivering engaging, high-quality learning experiences for our student veterinary nurses 👏

Our Block 24 group have completed their last teaching block this week. There are still NPL's to complete, exams to sit and the dreaded OSCE's but they are one step nearer to becoming RVN's and we wish them all the best with the next steps in their journeys.

A huge congratulations to our lecturers, Emily and Chloe, who have both successfully completed their training and achieved their PGCE qualifications.

Emily has been part of the Myerscough team for almost two and a half years, following eight years in clinical practice. She is passionate about supporting students throughout their learning journey and takes great pride in seeing them achieve their goals. Emily teaches across both our FE and HE programmes, with diagnostic imaging being her favourite subject area. She will also be the course tutor for our next cohort of FdSc students.

Chloe joined Myerscough two years ago after spending four years in practice. She enjoys watching students grow in confidence and develop their skills throughout their studies. Chloe teaches both FE and HE students, with particular interests in theatre practice and anaesthesia. In September, she will take full responsibility for our new cohort of BSc students.

Lecturers Chloe and Becky attended the VN Educators' Conference at RCVS - Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons on Wednesday. The day was designed to bring together educators and veterinary professionals to explore the future RVN.
They both had a great day and enjoyed the keynote talks, interactive workshops and a panel discussion on technology-enabled veterinary practice.

This week, our third-year FdSc students received the long-awaited news that they have officially qualified as Registered Veterinary Nurses's
It has been an incredible journey, involving exams, assignments, OSCEs, 52 weeks in practice, and the completion of their Nursing Progress Log. After years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, they have reached this significant milestone.
As this chapter comes to a close, we are immensely proud of everything they have achieved and look forward to celebrating with them at graduation in just a few weeks' time. Congratulations to all our newly qualified RVNs! 🎉🐾

As National SQP week comes to a close we hear from our very own SQP, Veterinary Nursing Clinical Tutor Jackie on her experience of being a SQP.

"Having experience of being a registered veterinary nurse (RVN) SQP (Suitably Qualified Person) I feel it gives an RVN a rewarding combination of clinical care and professional responsibility.

It's a great way to expand your role in practice and allows an RVN SQP to support animal health not only through nursing care but also by advising clients and legally supplying certain veterinary medicines, thus enhancing the role and responsibilities within practice. This dual responsibility builds job satisfaction, and can open up career opportunities, for example, pharmacy work, dispensary, drug stock supply and storage or nurse led prescribing clinics. There are also opportunities outside of practice, include working with pharmaceutical companies, becoming a sales or technical advisor, teaching, or even training other SQPs.

Developing the role as an SQP strengthens trust with clients, as you play a key part in both treatment and preventative care. This additionally demonstrates increased knowledge and commitment to professional development, which can improve confidence, employability, and progression within the veterinary field."

Yesterday our first-year FE Blocks were reflecting on their journey through their first year and looking ahead to what’s to come. We are incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved.
We wish them a wonderful summer — continuing with their progress logs, but also enjoying a well-deserved break from college.
