🐻🌿 Fantastic provocation inspired by ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’! 📚

A wonderful way to capture the children’s interest, imagination and curiosity while supporting their learning and development.

Through this engaging experience, children are developing:

🗣️ Communication & Language – new vocabulary, listening and storytelling
📖 Literacy – sequencing, story structure and repeated phrases
🔢 Mathematics – counting, size and positional language
🌱 Understanding the World – exploring nature, animals and different environments
🎨 Expressive Arts & Design – creativity, imagination and role play
🤸 Physical Development – movement, coordination and balance
💛 PSED – confidence, cooperation, turn-taking and exploring emotions

🌟 What a jam-packed Team Meeting!🌟

We had a fantastic evening of learning, reflection, teamwork and, of course, plenty of laughter! 💚

We kicked things off with a little ice breaker — crackers and lots of chatting! 🫓😂 We asked the question: “How did it feel eating a cracker and not having a drink?” This sparked some great discussion, with team members linking it beautifully to Safer Eating, which was one of our main objectives for the evening.

We then moved on to EYPP, firing those tricky questions that Ofsted might ask! 👀 Our team gave some fantastic answers, making strong links to Curriculum, Teaching and Achievement. It was brilliant to hear everyone sharing their knowledge, understanding and experiences. 👏

Next, we watched a video from Sam focusing on Safer Sleeping and explored how we embed this within our everyday practice. The key message? The difference now is that it’s a “MUST” — something we need to ensure is consistently embedded in our practice. 💤

We also looked at our Environments — thinking about how we can *step it up* and *step it down* to ensure our spaces continue to support, challenge and inspire our children to thrive. 🌱✨

I am super proud of you all! ❤️ The commitment, passion and continuous learning you show makes such a difference to our children and our setting.

🐯☕ Home Learning is so much fun! 📚✨

Aurora decided to bring the much-loved story The Tiger Who Came to Tea to life at home with her mum and brother! 🐯🫖💛

We absolutely LOVE seeing our children getting involved in learning experiences at home. These moments make such a huge difference to children’s learning and development. When families share stories, recreate characters, act out adventures and play together, children are building their communication and language, imagination, confidence, creativity and social skills — all while having lots of fun! 🌟

It also helps children make meaningful connections between what they experience at Nursery and their home life, strengthening their learning in a fun and natural way. 🥰

A massive well done to Aurora and her family for creating such a wonderful learning experience together! 👏🐯💕

🐛🍎 The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Rory's Room! 🍓🦋

Our children have loved bringing The Very Hungry Caterpillar to life through a range of exciting activities. They explored and tasted different fruits, practised their chopping skills, created colourful caterpillar paintings, enjoyed sensory play by feeding the hungry caterpillar, and shared the story together.

These experiences supported Communication and Language by encouraging conversations, introducing new vocabulary and developing listening skills, while also promoting Literacy through storytelling, book exploration and recalling key events from the story.

Learning through play has been lots of fun these past few weeks! 💚

🧪🍓 **Potion Making Fun in Pre-School!** 🍋🫐

In Pre-School, we have been placing a huge focus on the Prime Areas of Learning: Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These essential foundations naturally weave into all other areas of learning, including Mathematics and Literacy.

Our children have loved becoming imaginative potion makers, creating magical drinks using a variety of fresh fruits. They explored with all of their senses—smelling the different fruits, squeezing the juice, mixing ingredients together, and watching in amazement as the blackberries turned the potions a beautiful shade of purple!

Throughout the activity, we introduced and encouraged the use of new vocabulary, helping the children to extend their language and communication skills. It was wonderful to hear them confidently using and pronouncing their new words while sharing ideas, taking turns, and working together.

Learning through play is at the heart of everything we do, and this activity was a fantastic way to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning! 💜✨

Rabbia consistently goes above and beyond for the children and families here at Fern Bank Nursery & Pre-School. Her dedication, kindness, and commitment shine through every single day.

This month, Rabbia has been recognised for the incredible support she has given to one of our new Room Leaders, helping them settle into their role while also taking the time to build strong relationships with the children and their families. 💚

Your hard work, positivity, and willingness to support others never go unnoticed, and we are incredibly lucky to have you as part of the Fern Bank team.

What an amazing day we had celebrating Partou Day and the International Day of Play! 🎉🌍

Our Babies and Toddlers took part in their very own Mini Sports Event, where they had lots of fun developing their core strength, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills through a range of exciting activities. They also enjoyed practising their counting and colour recognition while inviting our wonderful mums and dads to guess the name of our lion teddy! 🦁

Our 2's and Pre-School children got creative in the kitchen by making their own delicious fruit kebabs – they looked fantastic and tasted even better! 🍓🍌🍇

To top off the celebrations, our Pre-School children wowed everyone with a spectacular Fashion Show. They proudly walked down the red carpet dressed in cultural outfits celebrating diversity and in costumes representing what they dream of becoming when they grow up. From future doctors and firefighters to inspiring cultural dress, every child shone with confidence and pride. 🌟

A huge thank you to all our mums, dads, and families who came along to cheer on the children. Your encouragement, applause, and support made the day even more special and helped create wonderful memories for everyone involved.

We are so proud of all our children for embracing the joy of play, trying new experiences, and celebrating their unique personalities. 💛
