I Used to Write Stories, by Gliopoet 07/08/2026

In November 2024, BA (Hons) Screenwriting with Film, Television and Radio University of Lancashire Alumni Jamie was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain tumour, at the age of 29. Jamie says:

“It was, as you might imagine, a lot to take in. I was newly married, had a newborn son, and had only just started to feel like my creative career was finding its footing. Rather than stop writing, I started writing more. The result is a debut poetry collection called I Used to Write Stories, written under the name The Gliopoet. It is darkly comic, spoken word in spirit, and refuses to be a straightforward cancer memoir. Think Oasis references, ASDA Trafford Park, and God spilling a flat white at The Christie.”

We're very pleased to share that Jamie's poetry collection has now been released. Through its sale, Jamie hopes to raise money for brain tumour research.
