βοΈ What a fantastic turnout for our Summer Fair! It was great to see so many people there, and even the sun decided to join us! ππ
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported our fundraising event β€οΈ
We'd also like to say a big thank you to all our amazing staff for their help throughout the afternoon ππ.
And finally, a massive shout-out to our incredible Year 6 children! π Not only did they come up with their own enterprise ideas and spend the afternoon selling their products, but they also did a brilliant job helping to tidy up at the end of the day π§Ήπ.
As always, everyone at Holme Slack is so proud of each and every one of them π

Year 3 enjoyed marshmallows and biscuits around the fire this afternoon, the flames magically turned to different colours and we shared a campfire song together.

Itβs been a busy first week back at Holme Slack Community Primary School β take a lookβ¦
π₯° Y1 have been talking about the impact compliments can have on someoneβs mental health. The enhanced provision has been set up, giving the children lots of opportunities to develop oracy, fine motor skills, risk-taking, and creative thinking.
Finally, they made paper puppets linking to our new fiction text, Pinocchio.
π¬ Y2 have started their new Science topic on materials, using great descriptive language to explore different materials. Well done!
π§ Before half term, Y3 enjoyed learning orienteering, using maps to navigate around school and answer questions along the way.
β Year 4 will be taking their national times tables test next week. Theyβve worked incredibly hard β good luck, Year 4!
β¨ In Science, Y5 have been learning about gravity through exciting experiments, exploring how it affects different objects.
π On Thursday, Y6 enjoyed an interesting university trip, exploring campus life and taking part in a veterinary workshop about animal skeletons and adaptations.

To all our families and friends at Holme Slack Community Primary School who are celebrating Eid al-Adha ππ»
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important holidays in Islam. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahimβs faith and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. According to the tradition, God provided a ram to be sacrificed instead.
We wish everyone celebrating a joyful and peaceful Eid filled with happiness, family, and community. πβ¨

πΏπ Today is Outdoor Classroom Day 2026! π
Outdoor Classroom Day is a global celebration that encourages children to learn and play outside. It highlights the many benefits of outdoor learning, including boosting creativity, confidence, wellbeing, teamwork, and a love for nature.
Today, our pupils took their learning beyond the classroom walls and enjoyed exciting activities in the fresh air β exploring, discovering, creating, and learning together outdoors!
We are proud to support opportunities that inspire curiosity and make learning fun and memorable. π³β¨

Today Y1 talked about kindness and the power of compliments. π
The children took part in a lovely activity where each child wrote their name on a cup and passed it around the class. As the cups moved from person to person, everyone added kind words and compliments for their classmates.
At the end, each child received their own cup back filled with positive messages from their friends. It was wonderful to see so many thoughtful, caring and encouraging comments being shared around the classroom. π
A simple reminder that kind words really can make someoneβs day!

β
SATs are officially done and dusted! ππ₯³
What a week it has been! As always, the children showed a true Holme Slack attitude in every single part of the week π From walking into school with positive mindsets to giving every paper their absolute best effort, we could not be prouder of them all π
They have worked so hard all year and definitely earned a well-deserved rest this weekend!
Scripts have also now gone out ππ which means there is a very high chance that by next week every household will know the lines off by heart too! π You may find yourselves being treated to dramatic performances in the kitchen, random singing in the car, or children practising lines at full volume when you least expect it! π¬π€
There are lots of exciting things coming up over the next few weeks ππ
and we are looking forward to making the most of every minute with the children. As always, I will keep you all updated on here π

π Outdoor learning in Reception class - Adventure Thursday are magical π
This morning we headed out into Forest School. We talked about shelter and how the forest and trees create a natural shelter for us. The children then worked together to build their own shelter, which turned out to be perfect timing because the rain came!
The children loved it. They ate their snack underneath, shared books together and enjoyed listening to the rain whilst staying cosy and dry.
In the afternoon we had our very first go at orienteering! The children were so excited and showed great teamwork and perseverance.
Another fun Adventure Thursday!

Today, Y5 have been dissecting flowers in science to identify the male and female reproductive parts that produce seeds πΊπβ¨
In maths, theyβve been using counters to help develop their understanding of finding fractions of amounts. The children have shown lots of resilience with this concept, as itβs been tricky to master πβ¨

Proud moment for our Early Years team to be featured in the Lancashire Early Years Summer Spotlight Magazine talking all things transitions π€
Itβs that time of year when we begin thinking about transitionsβ¦ although in Reception and Year 1, transitions are something we think about all year round π€
At our school, our transition process is built around relationships. We believe the best transitions happen when families and school work together β united, supportive and with the child at the centre of it all π€
Myself and Mrs Kirkham work closely together to ensure our Reception children move into Year 1 confidently, happily and ready for their next steps. We know how important it is for children to feel safe, secure and understood and when they doβ¦ learning will take place π€
Before children even start Reception, every family has dedicated 1:1 time with me whilst their child explores and plays within our environment. It may sound formal, but itβs really about connection, listening and truly getting to know each child and their family. These conversations give us such valuable insight into childrenβs interests, needs, celebrations and any support they may need β helping us make every child feel seen from day one π€
At the moment, I am already getting ready for our new 2026β2027 starters and I absolutely love this part of the year. We pride ourselves on smooth transitions and building strong relationships with families so we can work together to support every child on their journey through school π€
