Leyland St James Nursery

Yesterday we had the best time with our families at our Winter Wonderland children's party. We toasted marshmallows in the forest school, played lucky dip with the Grinch, made reindeer food, special Christmas eve treats and had hot dogs with hot chocolate. We ended our day by a special visit from Santa and his Elves and left with a very festive feeling x

At last we can finally share our good news. For the 3rd time in a row, Leyland St James Nursery is once again officially OFSTED OUTSTANDING in all areas !!! Amanda Marlow, Heather Coyle, Simone Bennison, Mandy Harrison, Ellie Dandy, Ellie Gradwell, Sally Nelson, Clare Fisher and Ruby Gillibrand - you are all amazing :-)

At Leyland St James, we provide a fun and stimulating indoor and outdoor environment that meets the needs of all of our children. Last week we looked at roots, so we have started a little experiment to see if pea seeds will grow in just water and cotton wool! If they do we will be able to see the roots of the pea plant, through the plastic cup. We are very excited to see if this works! We worked together in small groups, pouring water into our cups and then followed simple instructions to ensure that our peas have a comfy place to grow!
At Forest School, we listened to lots of different bird songs on the computer, then we went into forest school, closed our eyes and listened to the birds in the trees. We then tried to spot them in the trees which was very tricky!
We also explored the celebration of Eid al-Fitr
We watched a short film of a family decorating their house for Eid, cooking lots of food and the children having their hands decorated with henna patterns. We then made our own Eid Mubarak celebration pictures with the crescent moon and stars and the children all loved having their hands decorated with patterns using face paint.
The children had a go at weaving which required lots of concentration and tricky finger work. We tried weaving with different materials including coloured wool and leaves. We also looked at the bluebells and dandelions growing in forest school and enjoyed blowing the seeds off the dandelions.

It is safe to say that when we returned to nursery, parents and practitioners felt anxious and nervous. Following many risk assessments, talks with parents and changes to practice, we felt confident that we could offer our children a safe and happy return. Understandably, many of our families could not return due to individual reasons and we missed each and everyone of them.
Over the past weeks we have had the most amazing time with our 'bubble' group and thank each and everyone of you for letting us share this time with your children.
