Hello, I am a Childminder and I live in Newton, Lancashire. I love what I do daily and love that every day is different and funny. My name is Nicole Holden.

I love outdoor play and forest schools and believe that every child should be outdoors learning naturally. I have 3 children of my own, they are aged 16, 15 and 12 years of age. I have an NNEB and an NVQ level 3 in childcare learning and development. I am currently working towards my level 3 in forest schools. I have my paediatric first aid and also my outdoor first aid certificate.I have my food

πŸŒΏπŸ‘ Area of Learning: Understanding the World & Outdoor Learning β˜€οΈπŸ¦†

A late phone call last night let us know that the sheep shearers would be at the farm today, so there was no question about where our adventure would begin!
The little people had the opportunity to watch the sheep being sheared. The noise levels were a little higher than usual from both the sheep and lambs, but by the time the shearers had finished giving them their "haircuts", the sheep looked much more comfortable and refreshed. The children enjoyed watching them reunite with their lambs before heading back out into the fields.
As part of our learning, we:
πŸ‘ Touched and felt the fleece
πŸ‘ Talked about how wool is used and the different things it can be made into, such as clothing, blankets and other everyday items
πŸ‘ Learned about how farmers care for their animals throughout the year
With the sunshine making an appearance, we then headed to Fairhaven Lake to enjoy some outdoor learning and bird watching.
The children were excited to spot the Spitfire display and loved making the propellers turn by pressing the buttons. We enjoyed a lovely walk around the lake, observing birds and talking about the wildlife we could see, before ending our day with some fun on the beach.
β˜€οΈ A wonderful day of hands-on learning, fresh air, exploration and sunshine! β˜€οΈ

What a fantastic way to kick off our week!
As Mondays go, this one was pretty special!
We started the day at nursery Sports Day, where we watched some amazing EYFS racing. There was lots of excitement with running races, egg and spoon races, and even sack races!
My little people then had the chance to join in the toddler race themselves, which they absolutely loved. The smiles on their faces were priceless, and they were so proud to receive their medals too!
After all that excitement, we headed to the beach for some relaxed outdoor exploration. We built sandcastles, discovered mermaid's purses, shells and rocks, and even conquered a HUGE sand mountain!
Today's learning and play included:
✨ Roly-polies
✨ Digging
✨ Sliding
✨ Bum shuffling
✨ Throwing
✨ Tipping and pouring
We finished the day back outside enjoying the beautiful sunshine and making the most of the great outdoors. Days like these are what childhood is all about β€” fresh air, movement, exploration and lots of fun!

What a fantastic week we've had!
After starting the week with some lovely birthday celebrations, we enjoyed our annual Holly-wood Sports Day... not once, but TWICE!

Our races included running races, relay races, wheelbarrow races, and even hurdles made from logs, making the most of our natural outdoor resources.

The children showed incredible determination, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the events. There was lots of fun, laughter, cheering, and encouragement from everyone involved.
To celebrate their achievements, all the children received certificates and medals for their efforts.
Areas of Learning Supported:
✨ Physical Development – developing coordination, balance, strength, and gross motor skills.
✨ Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building confidence, perseverance, self-esteem, and teamwork.
✨ Communication and Language – listening to instructions, cheering on friends, and sharing experiences.
✨ Understanding the World – exploring and using natural resources within our environment.
✨ Mathematics – counting scores, comparing results, and understanding positions and sequences.
Another wonderfully crazy, successful year of Holly-wood Sports Day! We are so proud of every child for taking part and giving it their all. ❀️

Lunch on the grass and then headed back to water the plants and free play outside

The final decision was made by the older two on how they wanted to spend their last day of inset days.
This was a firm favourite. We headed off to Knowsley Safari park and had a great little day.
We saw the baby rhino, tiger, giraffes, had ostriches pecking our car, wolves, bush dogs and much more - we also saw a dead frog!
Can you guess what a little girls favourite animal was???
Yep…. The dead frog πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£

We headed for a chilled day in Holly-wood. We made some delicious food on the campfire and had lots of empty plates.
Stopped off for our usual milkshake and spotted a beautiful new arrival that had just been born. ❀️

Life has been slightly busy lately and I’ve not had chance to tackle the new allotment - until now! 🀣 My first weekend off has been very exciting with a lot of hard graft from Marky mark and I. Thank you to Scott for the delivery of top soil and for a push with weeding and strimming. Still along way to go but excited! ❀️❀️❀️

Day 2 of half term was chosen by the eldest member of the crew!
We headed to Holly-wood and enjoyed hiding from the sunshine.
Fires, campfire cooking, painting and then on to Gracemire farm to help with bedding and feeding the animals. No billy the bull today though he was out in the fields loving life.
We walked through the fields with new pup Dotty to go and pay a visit to 5 little pigs.
Back to plant, re pot and water a lot of out ever growing seedlings 🀣🀣

I have a rare weekend off so fingers crossed we can see a difference and make the allotment look amazing 🀞🀞🀣🀣

Well we are loving this weather especially in half term! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰
Today we had the best day in Lytham st Anne’s. First we headed to the beach then on to the outdoor pool, next lunch and on to the splash park.
We had one of our bigger girls back who came in like she’d never been away!
Plus our bigger ones and I love spending the day with them all!
Lots of memories made ❀️
We were so pleased to see her and she was showing us her impressive swimming skills.

Home to water all the plants and harvest some delicious tomatoes.
