One of Preston’s longest-running dance groups is to leave the city centre after four decades and move to a suburban business park.

Carol May’s Academy is the final business still trading in the Guild Hall Arcade as all others have relocated or closed around them.

They will exit stage left in September saying the uncertainty around the future of the Guild Hall along with the changes made earlier this year by Preston City Council to block off the front entrance had been major factors in their decision.

Carol May’s Academy has been a place of friendship, confidence, opportunity, and a love of dance for generations of families for over 40 years.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are urgently needing to secure a new permanent studio home, ensuring our dancers can continue to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and inspiring environment.

Help Us Secure the Future of Carol May’s Academy

For over 40 years, Carol May’s Academy has been at the heart of our community, providing a welcoming, supportive environment where children and adults can learn, grow, and share their love of dance. Generations of families have passed through our doors, creating friendships, building confidence, gain opportunities and lifelong memories.
As a result of this general excellence of training, many of our pupils have been able to further their dance career, and gain opportunities and places at professional dance establishments including The Royal Ballet School and PCD to name a few.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, ongoing issues affecting access to our current premises mean we are now facing an uncertain future in our current building. As always, our priority is ensuring our students continue to have a safe, positive, and inspiring environment in which to dance and thrive.

We are therefore urgently needing to secure funds to help us find and establish a new permanent studio space where our students can continue to train safely and comfortably for years to come.

The costs involved in relocating a long-established dance school are significant, and we are asking for the support of our wonderful dance family, local community, former students, parents, and friends to help us through this incredibly difficult period.

Funds raised will go towards:
- Securing a suitable new studio premises
- Relocation and setup costs
- Creating a safe and welcoming environment for all students

Every donation, no matter how small, will help protect the future of Carol May’s Academy and allow us to continue supporting the children, families, and dancers who mean so much to us.

Dance is more than just a class! It is friendship, confidence, support, and a second home for so many young people. With your help, we hope to continue that legacy for many years to come.
