🌟 A Proud Moment for Penwortham! 🌟

We’re incredibly proud to have been featured as the Lancashire Picture of the Day in today’s Lancashire Post, celebrating our achievement of the myHappymind Bronze Accreditation. πŸ₯‰πŸ“°

myHappymind is a science-backed, NHS-backed mental health and wellbeing programme that helps prepare today’s children for tomorrow’s world by building resilient, balanced and happy minds. Through engaging lessons, children learn how their brains work and develop lifelong habits that support resilience, confidence, self-esteem, gratitude and emotional wellbeing.

Achieving Bronze Accreditation recognises our commitment to embedding these important skills throughout our school community.

As always, happiness is at the heart of everything we do. We are incredibly proud of the way our pupils, staff and families have embraced the myHappymind journey, helping every child to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

A huge well done to our wonderful children and dedicated staff on this fantastic achievement. Here’s to continuing to build happy, confident and resilient learners together! πŸ’™

Year 5 Leadership Inspiration
Our Year 5 children had the wonderful opportunity to hear from our amazing Head Boy, Head Girl and their Deputies to learn more about their roles and responsibilities during Year 6. They shared their experiences, the skills they have developed and the difference they have made as school leaders throughout the year.
The children will now have an exciting opportunity to complete applications over the summer holidays should they wish to be considered for these highly respected leadership roles at Penwortham Primary School. Shortlisting will take place at the beginning of the new school year, with dates for the formal interview process to be confirmed.
Year 5 also met with our House Captains, who spoke about the many other positions of responsibility and ambassador roles available in Year 6. It was inspiring for the children to hear about the wide range of opportunities to contribute to school life and develop their leadership skills.
The experiences gained by our Year 6 pupils as outstanding leaders are truly inspirational and provide valuable skills for life, including confidence, resilience, teamwork and responsibility.
We would like to thank our current Year 6 leaders for being such fantastic role models and wish them every success in the future. We look forward to seeing our new Year 6 pupils embrace these exciting opportunities and take on their own roles of responsibility in the year ahead. 🌟

Year 5 DT – Design Your Own Healthy Pasta Pot! πŸ…πŸ«‘πŸ§€πŸ
Our Year 5 children have been busy learning all about nutrition, food provenance (from farm to fork), food preparation and kitchen safety as part of our Design and Technology unit.
During this topic, the children have learnt:
βœ… Why it is important to wash hands before handling food
βœ… How to safely use the bridge hold and claw hold when chopping
βœ… Why different coloured chopping boards are used to prevent cross-contamination
βœ… How to safely use a grater by holding it firmly by the handle
Design Your Own Healthy Pasta Pot!
The children will create their own pasta dish, making thoughtful choices about ingredients based on what they have learnt about nutrition. They will carefully select vegetables and additional healthy ingredients to create a balanced and tasty meal while demonstrating the food preparation skills they have practised.
A Curriculum Adventure!
This activity links to multiple areas of learning:
🌍 Geography – Thinking about where our food comes from and how it reaches our shops.
πŸ”¬ Science – Exploring nutrition and making healthy food choices.
πŸ“ Mathematics – Measuring, estimating and portioning ingredients.
✍️ English – Explaining and evaluating design choices using food vocabulary.
🎨 Design & Technology – Designing, making and evaluating a product that meets a purpose.
The Big Taste Test!
"Munch for a Snack" tasting session, where they can share, evaluate and celebrate their creations.
We are looking forward to seeing the children's creativity, chopping skills and healthy food choices come together in a delicious final DT lesson!

Year 2 took to the skies of Agrabah on a magic carpet ride experience in English this week! It was amazing to see all of the twinkling stars, towering mountains and dusty deserts below!
We have also been working hard on our quizzes using Scratch Junior. We have loved putting our debugging skills to the test!
