๐Ÿ”ขโž— Year 5 Practical Maths! โž—๐Ÿ”ข

Our Year 5 pupils have been developing their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages through a hands-on maths lesson.

Using decimal place value counters and place value grids, the children represented a variety of numbers and explored the links between decimals, fractions and percentages.

A team of sporting superstars headed to UCLan to compete in The Sports Festival, taking part in a wide range of sporting competitions against schools from across Preston.

Our children showed fantastic teamwork and determination in events including tennis, netball, hockey and frisbee, achieving some outstanding results throughout the day.

A special congratulations goes to our incredible frisbee team, who flew their way to the top and took home the win! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡

Year 3 have been developing their map-reading skills by using atlases to explore our world. They worked hard to locate and identify key geographical features, including the North Pole, South Pole, Equator, Prime Meridian, Northern and Southern Hemispheres, Eastern and Western Hemispheres, Arctic Circle, Antarctic Circle, Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn.

Well done, Year 3 โ€“ you did an excellent job!

๐ŸŒŸ Year 1 Writing Superstar! ๐ŸŒŸ

We are so proud of this amazing piece of writing retelling the story: Whatever Next.

He has used fantastic adjectives to make his writing more exciting, beautiful cursive handwriting, and some excellent sentence starters. What a wonderful effort and a brilliant example of all the skills they have been learning in class!
Keep up the fantastic work! โญ๐Ÿ“šโœ๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ Year 2 Victorian Adventure! ๐ŸŒŸ

Year 2 had a fantastic trip to Fleetwood Museum this week as part of their learning about the Victorians. The children enjoyed a brilliant hands-on day, learning about Victorian homes, schools and daily life, as well as exploring historical artefacts and dressing up in Victorian clothing.
You may notice that the children aren't smiling in the photograph! We learned that Victorian cameras could take around three minutes to take a picture, so people had to stay very still. Many chose not to smile or open their eyes to avoid blurring the photograph!

๐Ÿงช Year 5 Science ๐Ÿงช

Year 5 investigated whether shape affects water resistance. We discussed how streamlined shapes, such as sharks, aeroplanes and trains, are designed to move faster by reducing resistance.
The children then used plasticine to create different shapes and tested them in water to see which moved the quickest.

A fun, hands-on investigation with some great scientific thinking! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ”ฌ :::
