Earlier this week, our lovely Year 4 had a great afternoon visiting Bow Lane Gurdwara. They learnt more about the Sikh religion to deepen their understanding. They looked around and listened to some music and even got the chance to play the instruments.

The children were extremely well behaved and respectful and this was commented on by the leaders and volunteers at the gurdwara.

We are extremely grateful to the gurdwara for providing such a fantastic learning experience for the children.

🚀 Yesterday morning, we had lots of fun in school with Explosive Erica in her Mad Science assembly.
We went on a journey to Mars in different spaceships learning about gravity, thrust and being aerodynamic.
Erica used rocket fuel which she set fire to! This made a pop and a blue flame.
We also orbited Mars, learning about centrifugal forces as she rotated a cup of water on a frisbee. The children were astonished how nobody got wet!
Well done to Explosive Erica's assistants and a HUGE thank you to the PTFA for organising such a fantastic event, made possible by the support of all our KWPS families and friends at our recent fundraising events. 🚀

In the first of two interesting assemblies this week, we welcomed representatives of the RNLI. Charles and Mary visit us each year to teach the children about many aspects of water safety. They talked about safety at the seaside, including:

- using a rope on an inflatable boat so a parent / friend can hold it and preventing it getting blown out to sea.
- never using other inflatables in the sea - only in a swimming pool.
- Different flags at the beach and how the red and yellow flags are the safest area for children to play between
- Body boards - it's a great idea to get one with a leash to attach to your arm, so you don't get detached from it.
- Safety at a beach with no lifeguard, remembering to stop, think and stay together.
- Float in a star shape if you get into difficulty.
- Dial 999 or 112 in an emergency.
- Also, never to walk on lakes, rivers or other bodies of water which have frozen over.

Wow...what a big list! Please continue to discuss and remind your children (and everyone you know!) of these vital safety tips.

Year 4 had a fantastic day at Cuerden Valley Park earlier this week. They enjoyed activities in the river - measuring the depth, the width and the speed of the river, checking how clean the river was by searching for minibeasts which can only live in clean water and using pans to search for rocks and stones. Wonderful learning, Year 4!

Good luck to our fabulous Year 6 who are sitting their SATs tests this week. They’ve worked so hard to prepare and we know they will shine, as always.

We have been very lucky that our fabulous PTFA have subscribed to a couple of magazines for Year 5 to enjoy. The children have loved learning the 'Secrets of Science' and following the comic strips of 'The Phoenix'.
Comics and magazines are a great way to encourage children to spend some time reading, and are often a favourite in the Y5 classroom borrow basket.
Thank you PTFA and all the families and friends who have supported our recent events.

🎉 Congratulations to everyone who has been offered a place at KWPS in September. Welcome to our family! 🎉

Thanks to the generosity of our KWPS families, these are just a few of the hamper prizes our wonderful PTFA were able to put together for last night’s Easter Bingo. Thanks to everyone who supported this event, with donations and/or by attending on the night. Thanks also to the PTFA for their organisation and enthusiasm for the event. Great fun was had by all!

All that is left is to wish all our families, friends, staff and governors a relaxing Easter break. We’ll see you back in school on Monday 15th April for the final, fun packed term of the year.

Our final Reception post is full of yet more animal visitors and a snippet of some of the fantastic Easter craft and learning opportunities they have enjoyed this week.

Reception had a very special visitor as part of their Spring learning this week - a cute little lamb who was only 4 days old. They found out all about how the lamb is being fed and the things we can get from lambs and sheep. Year 1 and 2 also enjoyed the chance to meet the lamb and hear all about it.

Reception had a busy week in their wellies last week and their second trip of the week took them to the woods near school where they looked for signs of Spring. They found daffodil and crocus flowers, new buds on the trees and they enjoyed hearing the birds sing and watching them build their nests.

Next up from our fabulous Reception class is their trip last week to Bring Yer Wellies. They had fun planting seeds, den building and racing boats in the stream. Mrs Chandler said it was the best trip she has ever taken a class on and she was so proud of how well everyone behaved and got stuck into all the activities.

We’re going to shine the spotlight on our youngest children this week who have had some fantastic learning experiences over the last couple of weeks. First up, they learnt about St. Patrick’s Day by trying some Irish stew and soda bread, having a go at Irish dancing and making shamrock headbands.

At KWPS we are always keen to look for ways to help our families and thought these links may be of use.

Cost of living is always rising and it can be hard to make ends meet. These 2 links are for apps that help to provide food at a fraction of the price from local retailers such as Morrisons and Starbucks at the end of the working day. There are also options to recycle used items for the home for free - well worth a look!

Happy Mother’s Day! 🌷💐🌺

Today, we celebrate those who nurture and care for others. Mothers come in many different forms and we thank you for going above and beyond every single day.

Our final reading post this week centres on our neighbour, Kirkham Library. All year groups hope to access the wealth of resources the library offers throughout the year and we have welcomed Rachel, the librarian, into school several times already. Here are some photos of Y2 being book explorers on their library visit earlier this term. They also enjoyed seeing the work Y4 had done on how ‘Reading takes you places!’
Going to the library is a lovely (and free) experience to share with your child and all the staff are welcoming and helpful. If they don’t have the book your child would like, it can be ordered in for you. If you don’t have a library card for your child, it’s free and easy to sign up - just call into the library and they can assist you. Happy reading!

What fun we’ve had today celebrating World Book Day! There was a character parade in assembly, Book Bistros where favourite books were shared and wish lists written from book menus, reading rivers were created, a special lunch was enjoyed and guest readers came into some of our classes.

We LOVE reading at KWPS and we want to say a massive THANK YOU to Book Bean & Ice Cream for their kind book donations.

This week, ahead of World Book Day on Thursday, our posts will be celebrating all things READING!
A few weeks ago we welcomed Tom from the English Football League (also a former pupil of ours) who donated several books on the theme of diversity to our school library. The EFL are delivering around 2000 books to schools across the country and we are delighted that KWPS were chosen to receive some.

Year 4 had a Viking experience morning last week as part of their History topic. A fantastic way to bring their learning alive and they all made very vicious Vikings indeed!

Good luck to our Y6 children receiving their secondary school notifications tomorrow.

If you applied online, offers for secondary school places will be available tomorrow (Friday 1 March).

You'll be sent an email during working hours and then you'll also be able to view the offer online. Check your spam or junk email folders if you can't see the email and allow a full day for your email to arrive.

To celebrate this year being a Leap Year, all classes took part in a sponsored leap challenge earlier this week. We completed as many jumps as we could in one minute at each of 5 stations. We did bunny hops, bench jumps, skipping, star jumps and around the world hoop jumps. Great job, everyone and a Happy Leap Year to all! Enjoy the extra day!

This week we have marked Children’s Mental Health Week, taking part in mindfulness and reflective activities both in our PSHE lessons and in our ‘Express Yourself’ jumper day today. Check out the website for some top tips for families and children, conversation starters, fun activities and more. https://www.childrensmentalhealth

Reception have enjoyed learning all about Lunar New Year. They had great fun creating their own dragon dance along to percussion instruments and they made lots of noise! They have been very creative too, making Chinese New Year cards and lanterns.

It’s been a very busy week at KWPS.

Tuesday was Safer Internet Day and every class built in lessons around 'security and privacy', in particular passwords and online consent.

How safe and different are your passwords? The best passwords are a mixture of three random words, characters and a number... eg pinp£ncil$poon32 (pin, pencil, spoon 32)

Have a safe online password.

🎤🎶 It was an absolute privilege to take some of our wonderful Year 5 and 6 to the AO Arena in Manchester on Tuesday for the Young Voices concert. We have been rehearsing, learning songs and actions since early October in preparation for being a part of the enormous choir of almost 9,000 children on the night. We also got to perform with the star acts, Urban Strides, Natalie Williams, MC Grammar and the super-talented Nandi Bushell.
It’s safe to say a great time was had by all - children, staff and the parents who came to watch! The children were impeccably behaved and gave it their all; we couldn’t be more proud of them all. 🤩
We’re already looking forward to Young Voices 2025! 🎤🎶
