💫 3 major sky events will happen today and with the lovely weather and clear skies we can see so much 💫

1st: Solar eclipse will start around 6:10 and peak at 7pm. There are lots of ways to look at this but please don’t look directly at the sun. ☀️
I’ve made a little video of how to make a pinhole camera (it takes about 15mins).

2nd: A six-planet alignment occurs on August 12/13, 2026, in the early morning hours just before sunrise. Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune line up in the eastern sky.

3rd (and one i’ve been watching for the last few weeks and it peaks today) The Perseid meteor shower peaks overnight on 12–13 August 2026. The best time to watch in the UK is between midnight and 5:30 am, when it is fully dark and the radiant point climbs high in the sky but you can see them all evening/night.

Conditions are ideal because the peak coincides with a new moon, meaning no interfering moonlight.
Hourly Rate: Up to 100 or more meteors per hour in clear, dark skies.

Tips for Viewing.

No Equipment: You do not need a telescope or binoculars; your naked eyes work best.
Dark Location: Go somewhere away from street lights, like the countryside or coast.
Patience: Give your eyes 15 to 20 minutes to adjust to the dark.

📚 Become a Reading Hero this Summer! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

Looking for a fun (and free!) activity over the summer holidays? Why not join Lancashire Libraries' Reading Heroes challenge!

Children aged 4–12 can sign up at any Lancashire library, enjoy fantastic books, take part in fun activities and games, and keep their love of reading growing throughout the holidays.

This week's event is:

📚 Could you help inspire a love of reading? 📚

We are looking for volunteers to come into school and listen to our children read. 📖

Just a small amount of your time can make a huge difference to a child's confidence, fluency and enjoyment of reading.
Whether you can spare an hour a week or a little more, your support would be greatly appreciated by both our children and staff.

If you enjoy reading, chatting with children and helping them grow in confidence, we would love to hear from you.

All volunteers will be required to complete the necessary safeguarding and DBS checks before starting.
