Consultation Letter to undertake a Section 27, Governor led Nursery Provision
Following a positive response to our market research recently with our families and local community, the governors of St Leonard’s C of E Primary School are now consulting to set up Governor Led nursery provision. Our proposal is to provide Governor Led nursery provision for 3 and 4 year olds from September 2026. The proposed provision will be run under Section 27 of the Education Act. School / the governing body will use its community facility powers enabling us to provide any charitable purpose (such as early education) for the benefit of families of pupils at the school, or families who live or work in the locality of the school.
We intend to offer a morning session and afternoon session to mirror the school day, with the option of use of wrap around care from Breakfast and After School Club currently run by school. The provision will be over seen by our Senior Leadership Team. The proposal is to create 16 places.
We aim for our nursery provision to have deep, long-lasting benefits across all areas of a child’s development. When the prime and specific areas are delivered with high-quality interactions, rich environments, and a child-centred ethos, children build the strong foundations needed for lifelong learning. Children will then transition to school with the skills, attitudes and self-belief needed to flourish. Building relationships with our families early, helps to embed our whole school family ethos and values. If children have siblings in the school, this helps with logistics and wrap around care for parents. It also enables them to be school ready and to feel confident in the environment and with the teaching staff in school for when they start in Reception.
This consultation period will close on 3rd February 2026 so please feel free to contact school before this point should you have any comments or require any further information.
Many thanks for your continued support.

Our Reception children were shining stars during their first nativity. They sang beautifully on stage and remembered all of the actions. Well done England class.
