Here are some pictures of our wonderful environment! As you can see our home corners have been developed and are bigger parts of our classrooms as we settle our children in and build up a sense of belonging ❤️. We have used real resources we have collected, no plastic around here!! ♻️

Nursery Kitchen Manager / Nursery Chef wanted
Presteigne Little People is looking for an organised, enthusiastic cook to prepare fresh, nutritious food for children aged 0–12.
25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, full year
Salary: £24,000–£24,650 pro rata, depending on experience
Duties include planning menus, preparing meals and snacks, managing allergies and stock, and maintaining food safety standards.
Experience in catering, and good allergy awareness are essential.
Benefits include no evenings, weekends or bank holidays, annual leave, pension, childcare discounts and training.

Job Vacancy: Nursery Kitchen Manager /Nursery Chef

Location: Presteigne, Wales
Salary: £23000-£24000 per annum pro rata (dependent on experience)
Hours: 25 hours pr week, Monday to Friday (No weekends or evenings) Full year
Contract: Permanent

Are you a passionate cook who cares about early years nutrition? Presteigne Little People is seeking a dedicated Kitchen Manager / Nursery Chef to lead our kitchen and fuel the minds and bodies of our children.
You will create delicious, fresh, and balanced food for children aged 0 to 12, making a real impact on their early development and relationship with food.

What You Will Do
• Create Menus: Design nutritious, seasonal snack and holiday lunch menus that meet early years healthy eating guidelines.
• Prepare: Prepare fresh breakfast, snacks, and tea daily for approximately 48 children.
• Manage Allergies: Safely cater to diverse dietary needs, allergies, and cultural preferences.
• Lead Operations: Manage food ordering, stock rotation, budgeting, and kitchen waste.
• Maintain Standards: Keep the kitchen audit-ready by managing all HACCP and food safety paperwork.

What We Are Looking For
• Qualified Cook: NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery (or equivalent experience).
• Safety First: Minimum Level 2 Food Safety certificate (Level 3 is highly desirable).
• Allergy understanding: Hold a recognized Food Allergy Awareness Certificate (such as FSA training) and demonstrate a deep understanding of managing the 14 statutory allergens under Natasha’s Law.
• Experienced: Background in a busy commercial kitchen, school, or nursery environment.
• Organised: Excellent time management to ensure meals are served reliably on schedule.
• Welsh Culture: A positive attitude toward promoting the Welsh language and culture in our setting is a big plus.

We have been doing our best to keep cool in the hot weather, having the best fun as we went on a river walk and enjoying a visit by our very own ice cream cart.
The children were excited to hear the ice cream van music, and Danielle arriving on the push along car, raised many giggles. They used the money they earned in their tasks to buy themselves an ice lolly to cool off with.

Throughout this year we have been introducing our healthy eating and extending our cooking skills.

This term we introduced a pancake maker and the children have become adept in making their own pancakes for snack. Today we made banana pancakes. Each child has their own bowl to mash and mix. Using cups to measure out the ingredients and showing Some great teamwork.

We have been so thrilled to have our very own Presteigne Little People allotment.

Over the past few weeks our little gardeners have been hard at work, as they have dug up the two raised beds, cleared the weeds and planted red and white onions along with colourful rainbow carrots.

The children have loved getting their hands dirty and learning where our food comes from. Not to mention discovering all the mini beasts.
We cant wait to watch them all bloom!
