When you design, don’t start by looking for ideas. Start by looking at the product. The problems to solve are already there.
One problem, which is actually quite easy to solve, is to understand the hierarchy of functions in a product and separate them through form or color.
If you look at this utility knife, the orange is used on the soft grip, where you’re supposed to put your hand. The black is around the mechanism, a part that is potentially more dangerous, and the metal is used around the blade and the high-stress areas.
So just by looking at the product, you can already understand how to use it.
And I think this is an important point: �Designers try to find complex new ideas, when very often, the solutions are already there in the product.
